Im going to be forking out for a new set of drilled and grooved discs with the pads for my VTR next week and was wondering if theres any real advantages/disadvantages of having the drilled and grooved discs over the normal ones?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-SAXO-VTR-VTS-DRILLED-BRAKE-DISCS-PADS-FR-RR_W0QQitemZ250198945938QQihZ015QQcategoryZ10376QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

There the ones im getting. Just wondering if there any good? £150 fitted seems a good price too considering Citroen just told me today they want £250 of my hard earned for the standard ones!

Any comments much appreciated!

depends on your alloys really. if the alloys cant vent the air to the brakes then there is no real point in going for drilled or grooves.

but I would go for drilled over grooved... no idea why though.

why grooved man?

..as they look good :P ...erm think the real reason for them is the fact that
the air is bought into the discs through the groves to cool them down quicker
therefore the brakes not overheating getting better performance...and plus i
dont know what the drilled ones do most likey the same ...they explain themselves really :A:

I would only look at grooved discs. And certainly not one with lots and lots of them as this reduces the available contact area for the pads

The grooves are there to clean the pad surface. They used to help expell gases but as far as I am aware modern pads do not generate gases in the same way so now its solely to remove debris from between the disc and pad

Drilled holes are there to reduce weight and provide the same benifits as the grooves but they introduce an inherent problem of stress risers which will cause the discs to crack eventually. Even on porsches (who use cast holes in the discs not drilled you can still see cracks forming.)

VT (& furio/westie) front brakes are vented which does most of the cooling of the disc!

put the money into a decet set of brakes instead !

go get a 266mm setup. the standard vtr/s brakes are shocking !
