VTS wont rev whilest driving

ive got a mk1 vts, and when i go to put my foot down it just doesnt rev or go anywhere? if that makes sence?

it will run and tickover, but as soon as i want full power it doesnt rev!

Do you mean that the accelerator has no effect over the engine at all?

If so its probably worth checking the throttle cable, make sure its not broken, and check the pedal is working as it should.

the accelerator works, if i drive the car really slow and build up speed slowly its fine, its when i put my foot down that it doesnt acelerate?

sounds like it might be the coil pack? could be a few things though; injectors, fueling etc.

i had this problem a while ago think it was the timing that was out. the vernier pully had spun out of position

a faulty coil pack will not cause this to happen

i thought that the coil pack controlled the firing of the engine? i would have thought that if it was buggered that the engine woulnt run properly - the engine not accellerating properly when being driven indicates to me that it isnt running properly.

if it was the coil pack it wouldnt idle either!!! but as he said it idles fine

Ill have to take it to a garage and get the timing checked, ill try another coil pack aswell, got one on my bro's GTI

if it isnt either of them try a new map sensor or get it plugged into a diag machine

Ill get sum pics up tonight! its a P reg 80k on the clock, amazon green,lowered 40 on spax i believe, Mongoose exhaust system (decat), vtr wheels, has had a remap, loads of reciepts and previous Mot Cert! T & T till May, requires one new drivers door as it has a resonable size dent below the lock

exhaust doesnt really rattle, it does a bit but u can harly hear it! it is De-cat mate

i'd say check accelorator cable and spring etc

EDIt try reving it from your your engine (don't know what it's called) push it down (what the cable connects to) and if it revs it's the cable if it doesn't you have a bigger problem with your engine:n:

Reason i ask is my cat collapsed internally and i had exactly the same symptoms as you. I would hit the limiter if reved at the side of the road, but could i ferk get it over 60mph flat out, just no power. New cat and it was fixed.

Have you tried the simple things like plugs? changed the air filter (even remove it just to see if its the cause), checked for leaks in vacum hoses from the throttle body? its often something very small and easy to fix.

I'd say it was the coil pack or injectors.
Check your injector connections (the little plugs on the back to the injectors)
These were loose on my VTR a while back and it had same problems, no power and just wouldn't accelerate. Spent heaps on new plugs, leads, coil pack etc trying to sort the problem then was fiddling one day found this thing loose, plugged it in and weyhey off i went :)

Yipeeeeeee problem solved hopefully, changed the plugs and coil pack and it hasnt missed a beat yet! touch wood
