Broadband Speed

just tested my broadband speed on http://speedtest.broadbandgenie.co.uk/ and it says my speed it 225.6Kb and i am 2,453m from the nearest exchange. im paying for 8mg broadband. is this speed correct? am i been conned?

was speaking to a lad at work about the stuff you did for me at mine and he says that my speed is average with it taking the time it does but his takes roughly 13mins :panic:

how do you defo determine what your actual speed is?

If you have either utorrent or limewire open it will effect the speed shown.

I saw speeds of around 2mb at the weekend. But that was using an application that depends on seeds so that might of been limited too.

He will probs have the Virgin 30mb connection.

My mate at work has it, raves about how quick he gets 'stuff'

Speeds can bounch all the time depending on other network traffic on your line and the exhange your connected to.

You'll only really get 8meg if you are much much much closer to the exchange..

Virgin is alot better as cable is designed for broadband. bt which wholesales to people like sky and anything thats adsl use old technology.. the phone lines..

I am with virgin, just done that test and got 255.6 Kb, 624 metres from the exchange.

I just got a 3.2mb speed and the broadband package I have is BT Broadband upto 8mb but I know our line only supports upto 4.5mb at the moment but that's getting upgraded.

It said....

try using www.speedtest.net < gives better readouts....
