Hi Folks,

I hope someone can help me identify this problem I have with my R reg Saxo 1.1i.

I had the CV boot done at a local garage, I got the car back and they said confirmed they had fixed it but said when they good the shaft out the box it leaked oil all over the floor, they said they had topped it up but they where not sure if they used the right gearbox oil.

So about 15 miles later, I get this strange noise from the gearbox. When Im driving i can hear this tapping noise which sound like its right infront of the bulkhead, and it happens more the faster I go, it also appears very loud if im not accelerating (if i just take my feet of the pedals) and occurs until the car stops.

The garage said it was the gearbox mounts, i couldn't see it being that myself but they changed them and the problem is still there.

Also the other morning when I first started it up it was extremely diffucult to get into first, then when I tried to accelerate from a junction it made a loud noise and jumped out of first gear.

I hope someone can help me with this!

Thanks in advance!

I have this noise, have had it for ages..

When i had my box rebuilt ages ago the people who did it said the noise is likely to be a bearing in the box of some sort..

I have the exact same symptoms as you, just the noise though, not the jumping out of gear..Mine has done if for years now and its still fine..

The garage may have caused your problem by putting the wrong oil in, i would get hold of them and say what the problem is and that its very likely to be related to what they have done, i think mine is just down to wear and tear..

Also its nothing to do with gearbox/engine mounts, i have a Group A hard as fook gearbox mount and it still does it..

Dont take any shit from them, especially as they have admitted they may have used the wrong oil..

They didnt know if it was the right oil? Its transmission oil its not a hard job. Id take your business elsewhere mate they sound like a bunch of cowboys. Just like most other garages.

Best ones are Nationwide Autocentres, as they usually check your car for free and they dont mess you about like all the crappy independant garages
