going to sell my car in the next 6 months and not sure what to get next so thought i would ask you lot, i will have £7,000 -£8,500 max to spend, it must be a 2002 or newer and no more then 40k on the clock, insurance isnt a issue. all i can think of is
civic type r

if you drive a scooby at weekends pointless getting one for the week, what about someting a little different like a kit car with a bike engine perhaps?

good suggestions pred, rx 7-8 is no go due to the engine maintenece on the rotary engiens needed rebuilding every 60k. Skyline i want a r34 as think the r32 dont look as nice and wont get a r34 for my money. Golf gti had 2 of them before and wasnt realy impressed after a quick car. celica test drove one but didnt realy like it, ibiza cupra r might be ok need to go test dive one will check whats on ebay. Not looked at boras, swifts and 2 of my mates have a3's so want something different

because the car that i buy is to go to work and back in it, but want something quick that i can tinker with, think i will be looking at a type r or a ibiza cupra. only use scoobie at the weekend as it only gives me 180miles to £55 of fuel if i drive sensibly

yeah wankel engines are a bit off putting but the rx-8 engines are supposed to fair better, and i thought it was ever 40k for a rebuild

may be the rx-7s that are 40 and rx-8s that are 60
really not sure tbh, costs a lot to hok it up to the diagnostics too, nice car but expensive to run, i think an ibiza cupra r would suit you down to the ground though steve :y:

why 2002+ and 40k+?
What was the reason for selling the VTS ? Too slow? Too small?
Think of the reasons why, and bear them in mind when buying next car,
I think you could probably get a nice evo for your money, not low mileage and 2002+ though :n:

Out of the list, the overall winner has to be the Type R matey! Good all rounder
and wont bust the bank.

ive personally always loved civic type r....the ones just before the new ones, if ya get that.
a leon is a good shout...always like these aswell :y:
dont get a scooby if you drive one at the weekend lol have a change...and it seems you've driven most cars that are out there :P
Paul
5th January 2008, 00:32
The problem with type-R's is that everyone likes them, They're not 'rare' if you get me?
Have to admit they nice cars though.
Give it a year or so, all the chavs will be cruising in them, or look-alikes.

i want it 2002 at least because i dont fancy going older then what i got and fancy the comfort of a newer ish car, plus i want low millage, my current car has 23k on the clock but i am willing to have one with up to 40k on it. Sold the vts because it was a little 2 small, dont want much bigger car but jsut a littel bit bigger thats why was thinking tye r, the vts wasnt realy to slow, was great on the corners just not amazing on the strights.

For the price and how new it has to be I'd say you're not going to be getting much better than a Civic Type-R. The default choice for that price range, and very popular, but thats only because they really are quite good. And being a mechanic, I'm sure you know about Honda's reliability (even if the Civic EP3 is from Swindon). Or theres this little bugger if you want VTEC thrills but want to be different:
Honda Accord Type-R 2.2i VTEC. 212bhp, 0-60mph in approx 6.8s, very quick and sound amazing. Comes with LSD and believe me, it corners unbelievably for it's size. A good mate had one and I've been in it a good few times, even more impressive allrounder than the EP3 CTR imo, you have to test it out to believe it. His was tweaked to around 230ish bhp with exhaust and induction plus some bits under the hood, and when it hit the VTEC it honestly sounded like a race-car, the whole street looked every time. Gave Evos a bit of a surprise down the local cruises too, bloody shifts! Nice interior and quality was unreal tbh...
Make your own mind up about looks, but for a driver's car, this tool is truly immense!

A 2002 model with average miles (40k) valuation from Parker's:
2.2i TYPE-R 4d Change
2002/02 Change
Average mileage: 40,000 miles Change
Original Price £21,495
Franchised Dealer £7,110
Independent Dealer £6,570
Private Good £6,395
Private Poor £5,555
Part Exchange £6,095
A minter should cost you 7k if you hunt around. Try finding a similar CTR for that sort of price. And these are very rare. For 7k-8k I'd say its the best thing around at the moment.

LOL- after experiencing this thing and the looks you get when you floor it, if I had 8k to spend I'd have one yesterday. The UK ones all have the Red H's, and that LSD is just amazing, it honestly makes a helluva difference in the corners. Whack a nice induction kit which amplifies the noise and you have pure bliss from the engine bay. A bit of a sleeper in black, but it looks the nuts imo, and goes very well indeed. Amazing machine.

Thats the thing, as its not as popular a the CTR its actually slightly cheaper on the used market, but thats because people just don't know how good it is. My mate (Jap-car nut) who had one drove the DC2, the EP3 CTR and then this and preferred the Accord Type-R out of all of them. He was in love with it until some drink-driver wrote his off... I almost cried when I heard that. :P

That Accord used to blow away Renaultsport Clios, I saw them to my left just retreating from my passanger window many times, seriously. ATR Mate in question was a bit of a... late-night cruiser (street-racer) if you get me :panic: Unhealthy past-time but there you go.. and now his beautiful car is in the scrappy someplace (not his fault but hey)
