View Full Version : Uneven tyre wear

I know, I know... Trying to sort my suspension / braking issues out is like the quest for the holy grail! But I've found something else out that's interesting. (I think...) ;)
I swaped my wheels around today, back to front and vice versa. I did this as the fronts were about halfway through their life and the rears are like new, so it helps prolong the total life. All 4 tyres were new when fitted in case you're wondering. Anyway, I noticed the tyre wear on the front left was considerably greater than on the front right. I would honestly say about a good 2-3mm more wear! :panic: The wear on both front tyres was even as in it wasn't on the insides or outsides. I've had all my allignement stuff done, the toe angles are spot on. Can anyone work out why I would get much more wear on the front left than the front right? And could this all be tied in with the problem I've got with more ride height on the right, along with less negative camber on the right and also more caster angle on the right, and why the car wonders to the right on the motorway? Cheers fellas!

my front lefts always wear out 1st.
i thought this was common.
its just an example but every roundabout is a right hand turn thus putting more stress on the front left tyre.

I hate the place, the signs don't tell you where you want to go and easy to get lost without a map, there are roads closed and its a pain to get to if you don't live near the M1. The fact it was purpose built really shows its such a boring place.
I think the left tyre always wears slightly more than the right, not sure about 2-3mm though
thanks for the pm jpsaxo you might have another later on. cheers

OK, I gotcha, haha. ;)
I'm just jumping to conclusions, and grasping at straws really. The quest for the holy grail continues!

Lol, rebuild your suspension as soon as you move into this new place ;)
New wishbones, bushes, drop links. If it still does it after that then be worried....

Haha. I might need some help. I tried fitting the current springs / dampers when I first got them, and bodged it right up. I'm hopeless with suspensions!

Bushes drop links and wishbones are easy as pie, suspension granted is a bit harder

Ideally I want to be able to adjust the camber angle of my suspension. So in terms of the front suspension, what would I need to change / purchase to be able to do such a thing? The Koni suspension I've got is pretty bog standard and not the best setup in the world... If I've got issues with it, I could just do everything at once...
