It's more commonly known as a TDC or Top dead Centre sensor.
Is basically detects a point on the flywheel when the piston number 1 should be at TDC.

It is located between the engine and gearbox, if you look at the front of the car it is about halfway down the gearbox on the side closest to the radiator. Dont have any pics to hand but hopefully that should help.

Yes it will stop the car from sparking because the engine doesnt know when to spark!

Correct it can stop it or make it fire at the wrong time.

Yes, if the ecu isnt receiving a signal from the tdc then it will not spark.

Ok so you have no spark!

This is the things I would be checking for no spark.
Coil
Spark plugs and HT leads
Immobiliser
TDC sensor
Fuses (not sure which ones to hand but check them all, it wont hurt)
Then if its still not sparking its time to be looking at the loom, firstly unplugging ALL! connectors and reconnecting, start from the ECU side of the car and work your way across following the loom that way you wont miss any out.

If its still not firing then a replacement loom.

And if its still not firing, I recommend £5.16 to be spent on it.
£5 fuel
16p box of matches!

found out today from previous owner that engine management light was on for about a week but car still started fine then 1 morning wud not start and has been like this since also found out that 2 electrical specialists could not sort problem out only cud tell that it was not sparking, should engine management and immobiliser lights not cum on wen ignition is switched on ??or betr stil does a 1997 saxo 1.1i even have these to lights

If management light was on you could do with putting a scanner on it to read the fault codes which will tell you what is at fault, but first thoughts are change the coil pack, leads and plugs and that SHOULD see you going again. But firstly put the scanner on it so your not wasting any unneccesary money.

If you are using the keypad have you tried resetting it?

In regards for resetting the immobilisers without knowing the keycode, all you have to do is turn the ignition fully on but not so that the car is turning over and then turning it off again. doing this three times in a row will reset the immobiliser keypad when you turn it on the fourth time.. (if it works properly that is) once you have reset the immobiliser, type in the original factory code, which is 0000. this should enable the car to be started normally and then this will keep 0000 as the immobiliser code.

Top tip for stealing a saxo that you dont know the code for but have the key to!!
