on an everyday car choose your cage wisely. Things like doorbars are going to be difficult to get over especially your lass when you are taking her on a night out in her little diddy skirt, especially if shes a britney :p
I digress a little..so back on track..
Many proper cages will limit the use of the rear seats. Bolt in cages are cheaper but dont look as neat. They will offer crash protection but do not stiffen up the chassis quite like a weld in cage, they can't be easily removed too if you wanted to sell up

Like Kamracing says really depends what you are after.
Tbh I wouldnt bother with an OMP bolt in cage, you wanna go somewhere like custom cages offer alot more protection stiffer chassis and a better fit!
Also the bolt in cages do require some welding normally, for the plates they bolt into!!

i dont mind sacreficing the rear seats as i dont use them, and would rather have safety than comfort when it comes to the rear of my car :y:
how much would i be looking at spending should i go for a proper one?

so youre doing it for safety then? seems a bit extreme. They wont help one bit in a front or side impact (unless you have door bars). They are there to stop the roof crumpling and protect you when you roll over, hence the obvious name. Do you intend to do much driving where you may be rolling over?
They cost anywhere from £350 upwards plus fitting and will send your insurance through the roof, if not cancelling it. (they view it that if you need a rollcage you will be driving like a loon, hence the risk)
I hillclimb and sprint mine and my MSA regs dont require a rollcage.

they are designed to be used with bucket seats, harness and a hel,et aswell. otherwise you could end up smashing your head off the bars in an accident.

im not much of a fan of them to be honest unless you race them on tracks

Looks pimp as hell, aswell as the safety and handling advantages.

i will be getting a roll cage eventually but i would have to say weld in is the one to get, also if you do a track day i think they wont aloud bolt in roll cages to be used (is this true)

Saunders06, i think thats official racing,
not just any old trackday.

theres a whole section in the MSA blue book (the motorsport rule book) on cages, covering everything from fixing point details, angles of door bars etc etc. Bolt in cages are allowed but it depends on the class of racing/rallying. as i said above, in sprints and hillclimbs in the road car classes you dont even need a cage, yet step up a class into the modified class and you need the full bifta for racing on the same track at the same event.... mind boggling.

but thats about speed as well. The production hillclimb cars simply dont go as fast as the production modified ones

So with companys like quinn who dont charge extra for mods if they arent performance i.e. dont add bhp it shouldnt cost any extra to add a rollcage ?
