Scattle
8th January 2008, 09:34

8th January 2008, 09:38
I've had my car for 5 months now, ten years old, just hit 70K and no major problems *touch wood*. Serviced frequently and she's passed every MOT. As long as the cars well looked after and has a good service history then you're fine. Keeping the car for 3 years or more so bound to encounter some problems of my own.

VTR_Nick
8th January 2008, 09:39
Mines never been in the garage since I got it last march only had a few small issues that I have been able to sort out. Brakes need changing next month (do them myself) but that not really anything to do with reliability

Scattle
8th January 2008, 09:40
As Shooorn said, if you find a saxo Laura that has been serviced regularly and that has not been ragged by some boy racer, then you should be fine imo.

laura_g
8th January 2008, 09:40
yeah but my mates car shes got a mk2 vtr thats always packing up and that had full service history

kristel10589
8th January 2008, 09:44
I've never had anything major wrong with mine. I think the most major thing i HAD to replace was the battery lol and it's nearly on 98k

Baz
8th January 2008, 09:44

Me too!! I bought the first car i saw :y: Has 9 owners now lol I think that's coz the previous owner went to Australia and lent the car to a few of her mates so she put it in their names as she was in another country. Still no big problems with it:p

Scattle
8th January 2008, 09:56
Well then lol :d... if there is 1 old lady owner, it shouldnt be too bad, low miles and regular service intervals.

laura_g
8th January 2008, 09:56
lol it was all good though never regret buyin my saxo after it crashed i got way more then wot i actually paid wahoo

Raz
8th January 2008, 10:13
ive had a few problems with the saxo...as with most cars, your going to get a problem.

you only get more in a saxo cos its french.

im still driving my car...and its in the garage hopefully end of this week, to beginning of the next....so it will drive better than it is now :y:

laura_g
8th January 2008, 10:14

laura_g
8th January 2008, 10:34
yeah when i had my saxo i got it serviced then like a month later it was written off, good thing bout the clio is that it only needs servicing every two years and it flew through the mot

Since having mine 'touch wood' ive had no major problems, for things that actually needed changing was clutch and cambelt but thats the same for every car.

R reg and its never failed an MOT, only had its first advisory point on the last one and that was only because id changed my suspension legs to 4 stud and 1 of the wheel bearings needed changing soon.

2 owners before me, 1 a 50 year old lady teacher who did a few daily miles to school and that was it, then passed on to her daughter who had it for 6 months doing the same thing

Emma_ZS
8th January 2008, 10:44
I haven't had a major thing with my car go wrong, yet

*touches wood*

had a 98 reg vtr for 10months, 54k on the clock when i got it, 60k when sold, needed 2 driveshafts when i bought it. had the brakes checked few times for squeeking, sailed its mot only needed new break lines and lamp adjustment, it always felt flimsy to drive and crappy tbh, but it didnt actually break. but it has LOTSSSSS of receipts of work carried out on it mainly little things tbh.

luck of the draw. just bought a mondy 02 plate, FULL new mot. did a 120m trip on the motorway.... came off motorway KLUNK....nothing wrong 5mins later... literally pulled into my street and sounded like i was rolling on a metal rim... front coil spring had just snapped for no reason. just unlucky

shooorn94
8th January 2008, 11:07
haha mk1's ftw.

that said my 1996 white sax brakes were on the way out, there was a leak, the suspension was sold to me knackered from auto driect car centre (Northampton, near rushden. My warning to you not to buy from there) Also the horn had gone and the usual airbag warning light. Oh and during my crash the front drivers seat came loose so I was travelling towards the steering wheel quite rapidly-luckily airbag was actually there :y:

But definitelly MK1's ftw. I haven't heard of a Mk1 rear window smash yet (due to closing or heating), seems only to happen on the mk2. :err:

laura_g
8th January 2008, 11:10
i was gona get a mk1 red west coast but it had sold wounded

laura_g

Hanuman
8th January 2008, 11:35
mine didnt have to many probs but it always felt like anything could go wrong at any time (just never felt like a rock just felt like it was a timebomb ticking) probably down to crap build quality tbh

8th January 2008, 11:44
Is Lauraloops Clo in disguise?

I've had my fair share of problems since owning mine (3 years now) but nothing that can't be easily sorted.

You get problems with any car tbh, it's just that not all are as cheap to fix as Citroens

Still go wrong and expensive to fix/run/maintain. You ask Japman!

smiith
8th January 2008, 11:51

cars are more reliable if you look after em well :)

Japs get problems too, mate had... sorry Has a Civic. Done something stupid such as 125k miles, he always bragged about build quality how his car has been around for 14 years and its had no major problems. Spoke to me the other day,

"Hows the car....?"

"Dont even ask mate, loads of things are going sh*t"

that led onto a story of how his exhaust came clean off. (probably due to rust tbh)

You'll get problems with any car. 306's seems terrible for faults though just before 56k.

laura_g
8th January 2008, 11:55
yeah ok a german car instead

Raz
8th January 2008, 11:58

french cars seems to be cheap to fix should a problem arise...

8th January 2008, 12:29
Mine has never been off the road once in the last 18 months. Clutch went. Which happens on any car.

Other than that bits that have needed to be fixed have been done in a few hours max and never caused me any problems to do.

8th January 2008, 12:40

Mikey
8th January 2008, 15:11
i think it depends what you use the car for when it comes to reliablity! if you dont rag it and never go anywer the car will last longer. if you drive like tiff nedell then it will shag up lol...my furio was shit, the vts was great.

My vts has been super-reliable ever since I got it, but then I aways warm it up before moving off, and keep the revs very low until the engine is warm. Always check the liquid levels, Depends on how well you treat your car I suppose, keep everything on it maintained and you should have no real problems tbh..

Wayne
8th January 2008, 19:54
aslong as you look after a car it will look after you, my old furio and my VTR now have had no problems i take great care of every car i own.

Had my saxo for almost 10 months now. It has needed a few new parts here and there, 9 times out of ten it will start on a cold morning, hasn't let me down much at all. With any car it depends how it's been treated.
