right ok as you all know i have had my car running shit since 24th dec 07 lol, took it in nationwide that day and got it back yesterday, i still have the same problem and had a bill,
BEARING IN MIND I HAD A 4-2-1 RACLENAD 4BRANCH MANIFOLD
the symptoms ar poor idle (on tickover it sounds like a muscle car)
sometimes splutters
when hard accelerating its ok but then when cruisin at 30mph its jerking about
the tick over is very low,
over fueling (black smoke)
engine light
nationwide have diagnosed it to be over fuling by 2.7 times also coil pack and manifold pressure sensor, so they did the coilpack and sensor, still the same, in the end they have gave me mu vcar back and fucked me off, but just charged me for the parts and diag - no labour, which they soent 8 hours at £65 i am so glad about that,
this is what i had on my invoice
**ADVISE**
ehxaust system has been altered, a non standard manifold is fitted which means the catalytic converter has been removed, due to the fact that the ecu has not been updated the engine is overfueling - causing poor running also the from 02 sensor has been disconected (the manifold has no facility to accept and 02 sensor)
the items we have fitted have improved the car but will bot cure completely due to the above the exhaust will require to be returned to standard for the engine to run correctly
help please ++++rep given

Hmm, why not just get nut welded into the manifold so you can fit the lambda (o2) sensor? then the engine will run better, as the ECU will actually be able to get a reading of exaust gases and adjust the fuel mixture accordingly.
or just put the standard manifold back on, sell the 4 branch, still a 1.1 at the end of the day :P
hope that helps

how do i adjust the fuel mixture though

by getting it mapped on a RR

That's correct getting the ECU mapped on a rolling road you can have it set up for performance modifications.
But for just an exhaust system thats not really worth it. Just having the O2 sensor plugged in will allow the ECU to set the correct fuel mixture automatically.
you don't have to adjust it yourself.

tbh reading your first post again, i would get a compression test done, as it could be head gasket time. My HG went on my VTS, between cylinders 2-3 and used to chug on idle, but when in high revs it used to run fine, but low RPM used to be a bitch.
The only other thing, is to check the timing is correct. but if you havent had the engine in bits i wouldnt worry about that too much.
If the "chugging" problem has come on by itself i would seriously consider getting a compression test done at a garage, or go get a tester from halfords

If I Got It Remapped Would It Cure It Anyway

bit strange as first problem iv really heard after having a raceland fitted. How is you other lambda sensor placed in the engine bay, like is it in a sleeve at all or just left by its self? prob wont matter much but wud help to know.
a remap would help but i would make as much performance mods as you can to your car before you have it done, to get the most out of your money.
is the engine management light up?

Have you unplugged the lambda sensor that is normally on the top of the standard manifold? IIRC, you need a sleeve for it.

lol i just asked that m8

Since iv fitted the raceland now and then i would have a rough idle and sometimes abit of lag when going to take off? Although theres no engine management light on! Let me know how you get on with it all!

a.d.c just rang me up and.......
there is a fault on the ecu they think!!!
so guna cost m3 £30 to send away for testing and if it can be fixed its ~
£200 to repair it :(:(:(:(:(
THE JOYS OF OWNING A SAXO :)

prob best just buying a new ecu m8, thats what i would do, dont get them to fix it, rip off

yeah you can pick up a brand new ECU for less than having your old one repaired mate.

u dont need to reprogramme a ecu m8, im sure u can just plug another desire one in. check this first but im sure it will work m8, dont waste ur money, u cud pick a vtr engine up for that much!

i think you can plug n go but his lambda sensor will still be hanging no where, and might have a similar problem, maybe not as bad. im no pro so im probs wrongs :(

i thought thats programmed to the key
-Richard-
9th January 2008, 19:16
like you need the key, ecu and chip for ignition

not if he makes a sleeve like iv shown in my manifold guide thread, iv had no problems so far.
