Hey everyone,
Have brought slip in chrome number plate surrounds. The only probelm is ive realised that the back number plate appears to be stuck onto the back of the car not screwed (i have a saxo vtr, see picture). How can i fit it?

Also it says they are slip in so all fixings are hidden. I may be dumb but i thought you just took the front number plate off and screwed it back on with the chrome surround attatched. But why is it slip in?

Any help for a dumb arse would be good,

Many thanks

the surround is slightly smaller than the number plate. So u have to bend it slightly to get it in. then when its in the pressure will hold it in place. You have to screw the surround to the car though.

the rear one is just stuck down with a double sided tape which you may need to use to stick down the number plate surround is as well as your car might not have holes to put the srews in. never had the plate off so couldn't tell you!

i bought two surrounds for my vtr.

the front and rear plates were screwed through to the plastic (front bumper/boot).

i didnt want any holes in my new plates so i had to think of a way of sticking these plates to the number plate surrounds.

i also had to be careful with the number plate surrounds because it had screw holes which would hold the surround to the car but then the screw couldnt really project out because the number plate would not then site flush.

what i did was as follows...

drilled two screws through the surrounds and then into the front or rear. i then tightened up the screws as much as i could and then got a heat gun and melted the ends so that they would sink into the plastic of the surround.

i bought a lot of double sided sticky pads and put some around the edges and in the middle and then secured between the plate and the surround.

i had more problems with the plate staying on the rear because when driving forward, the force keeps the front number plate in position while the rear tends to loosen and would then eventually drop off (which happened to me). but it was easily fixable.

by the way, note that the fixings for the surrounds are not necessarily in the same positions as the existing number plate fixings. in that case (like with me) you would have to fill in the existing holes so that they dont rust and then make some more using the surround as a guide.

hope this kind of helps.
