started today went for my break at 10 30 car was fine came out after work to find that my fob wasnt opening my car

later looked inside to discover that the milage and clock on the dash had gone opened the bonnet disconnected and re connected the battery.
it worked

then as i was driving later on the power just went then came back on.

so i went and got it tested with the equipment from my mates garage tests showed the battery and the alternator were ok so i thought it was conincedence.

so this evening i went out with some mates then came back to the car about 2 hours later and opened it everything was fine then i started it and after a second

the dials froze
no power what so ever
no sounds as i retried the ignition
no sounds from anywhere

as i disconnected my battery and reconnected it i could hear my alarm but it was really quite opposed to the loudness of it. but sstill couldnt start it as there were no dash light and the power kept going.

after about an hour of trying i got it started and home no im afriad to drive it incase i break down

please give me an idea of what it could be

my car is a 2001 vtr 98bhp btw

cheers:y:

Sounds like a bad earth , when you reconnected the battery which connection you take off ?

i took the positive terminal off and left the neg.

i tried to follow the earth to the engine but didnt have much luck

there should be two earth leads coming from it. one will go to the chassis inner wing just behind the battery the other should bolt to the top of the gearbox.
