Quick question really. Again, I'm wondering whether this issue could have something to do with my braking problem, I.e., could this be a sticky caliper? Basically, when the car has been parked with the handbrake on, sometimes when I try to move the car, it feels as if the handbrake is still on, as when you try to drive away, the car is completely stuck! If you give it a little extra umph, you hear a fairly lound clank, and the rear unsticks so to speak. Do you think this is a sticky rear caliper, or something to do with the handbrake? Has anyone else ever noticed such a thing happen with their car? Cheers.

I get this sometimes - when i put my handbreak down, i hear a cluck sound from the rear, and its as if the rear has been released. Noticed it more when parked on a sloap and in the cold. Im guessing its the handbreak thats been on too tight or its sticking.

Alot of cars do it, normally just brake dust and dirt from the roads.

If the last time you drove your car and it was raining if you had been braking hard then the pads will stick to the discs, or the shoes to the drum.

Hmm, seems like a lot of people have experienced the same thing then. So you think this is just caused by the pads being stuck? Definately nothing wrong with the calipers?

well toad av had my calipers raplaced and it still does it when the cars been sitting for awhile so am guessing it may jus be the pads being stuck etc

If the car is left for a while with the pads against the disk then they can stick. Best to only use the handbrake for short periods. If I leave my cars for more than a few hours I leave it in gear rather than use the handbrake

Personally I dont have this problem but if I did I would:

1. Make sure the handbrake lever is free, spray some wd40 on it and work it backwards and forwards to be extra sure.

2. Remove the pads and clean where they sit against the calliper frame, copper grease the pads and make sure they are nice and free.

OR

If you have rear drums and shoes, remove the drum, check the rear shoes arent over adjusted or havent came off the back plate (should be quite obvious), check the handbrake arm on the shoes is free and make sure the wheel cylinder is working correctly.

Hope this helps :y:

I replaced the rear pads only a few weeks ago myself. This thing has been happening for ages... My handbrake is a little wierd, as in, there's lot's of play initially, so you can lift it up a fair bit before it even gets any tension. I guess I just need to tighten the cable to solve that one...

I have just had this problem and solved it. Mine was doing exactly the same until my rear left whell totally seized so i couldnt release it. Kept trying to release until the clunk noise but could smell my cluth burning out. I found out tho that one of the shoes came off and was jamming my wheel. So in the end i had to replace both shoes on the rear. works a treat now. So if i were id check ya shoes otherwise u might find ya self stranded somewhere with a seized wheel.

hope this helps
