View Full Version : Spraying advice

Ok when I sprayed my grill I did the following
Sanded down
Primed X3 (waited 30 mins between coats)
Spray painted X3 (waited 30 mins between coats)
Then laquered a few times
Unfortunately the finish wasn't as smooth as I'd have hoped and was slightly gritty/rough.
Am I doing anything wrong? Should I be sanding down between coats or primer or even between paint coats?
I'm going to give it another shot so any help is greatly appreciated.

It was some very shit sand paper, which was probably the reason for the poor finish, and no I didn't flatten or polish. What grit should I be using?
Its the grill btw

Should only need to flat back the last coat of primer, If your last coat of colour it gritty your getting it uneven or maybe a little heavy...same with the clear... let is dry properly then polish it with some G3

should really flatten the base coat too, wet sand it with some 2000 or 2500 between coats, and then dont on the last layer of paint, clear coat it a few times, you should after its dryed wet sand the clear coat then buff it up using a machine but it will be awkward to get a machine on it

steve hes spraying his grill
should sand down gentle between primer coats. Use wet and dry after the last primer coat and leave to dry fully before apply first layer of paint.
Wet and dry first paint coat and then 2/3 more coats of paint should be good.
24 hours later do 3 coats of lacquer.
