Reckon you'd be alright not telling, you don't have to declare standard optional extras

VTR alloys on a 1.1 is about as much of an optional extra as a 16v engine.. If you want to cover your arse then I'd say declare it, will cost around £40 admin feee I'd imagine. Just ring up and say your thinking about it, if they want £200 for it then say you haven't done it.

It will hardly go up mate. If you crash and smash the wheel in half how are you going to fit a steelie.

1.1 desire should have steelie 14"s on it as standard

either way i dont recommend doing your little scheme should you crash.

declare it as an 'optional extra' as technically thats what it is.

havent even got them yet but when i do ill phone up and get it change officially they really dont give a feck as they are no bigger thats their policy ive now found out so the changing back when crashing idea is off the menu. and everything is back to legal

U av 2 declane dem wen dey r difernet 2 standad.

(you have to declare any modifications to the car if you want your insurance to be valid)

I declared my VTS alloys as optional extra's and it put my premium up £3. It's not worth it if you crash so declare everything. Insurance companies will do anything not to pay out

Does this include declairing a backbox?

Yes, if it is a modification i.e. not standard.

We have these threads several times a week, and it's always the same. The answer isn't suddenly going to change. If you make a change from the specification you gave to the insurers when you took out the policy, then you MUST declare it. If you fail to declare something when you take out your policy, then technically it is null and void, as you have not given the insurers all the details they need to accurately assess the risk and therefore the policy.

It's not difficult to understand, it may be unpalatable, it may not be what you want to hear, but it's hardly to complex to grasp, is it?
