Hello all,

Have a problem!
Same as last year, very high CO (0.7-0.9). Since then I have replaced manifold and checked whole system for leaks, just given it a very full service, tryyed it with and without air filter and replaced lamda sensor for an NTK unit.
I really need to get it past and am aware a few sensors could be the cause of it? Anyone had this problem. Dunno what to do an am half thinking to go back to jap cars but I do love me Pug!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Matt

Is your cat in your manifold, hence why you replaced it?

I had this prob the other week..

My readings weren't quite as high as yours, been told to change the Lambda sensor but i cant see it being that tbh..

Mine is serviced very regularly aswell, recent oil and plugs and air filter etc..

It has a 4-2-1 and a sports cat..the sports cat is less than a year old..i think thats the problem though tbh..

Likely the cat...

I hope so Toad, if it is i will take it back to the place who supplied and fitted it and told me it would pass an MOT and get them to put it through the MOT at their friends MOT station like they did the year before..

The CAT is the origional but the manifold is a Supersprint, the rest of the exhaust is std. I replaced the lamda last year and have just got back from Pug where a bought an ecu temp sensor (Green) so hopefully it might reduce the overfuelling if this is faulty? Might try to get hold of a MAP sensor if possible.

Thanks,

Matt

I faulty MAP sensor can definately cause the car to overfuel!!!

Thanks toad, Will now try to source a MAP sensor as the guy did suggest this but apparently is £80! Suppose the original has done ok as it is 10 years old. May as well replace the rest of them - Belts and braces!

Cheers mate

A diagnostic from Cit / Pug will cost you 1/2 hours labour, which is roughly £40. Don't change the sensors unless they are faulty!

The MAP sensor is around £33 from Peugeot.

Just had a word with Pug and to diagnose is £70 + vat or the MAP sensor is £63 + vat and on the shelf. I do suspect it but its a lot of dosh to spend on something I don't need! Might just try the ecu temp and see how that goes first?
I dread this time of year!

Matt

mine failed on emissions last time and turned out i needed new lambda sensor and cat. Try sticking some injector cleaner in ya fuel and shag it down the motorway.

Ye I replaced the lamda last year and gave it a good blast before the test. Can the lamda be cleaned at all or will it damage it?
Will try injector cleaner!

Thanks mate,

Matt

Try a couple of different Pug garages, because that's horse shit! (Please pardon my French!)

I've had a couple of diags done not that long ago, and it's always been half an hour labour. I changed my MAP sensor too, and it was around £33 from Pug. I hate the way they think they can charge donkey dick prices...

It could be that the cat isn't up to temperature.

Change the oil and give the car a good thrash before you take it back. Did the trick with an old car of mine!

Yeah thrash the hell out of it.... My dads gargae did mine and it wouldnt passs untiilll they trashed it for ages and literally made my tires bald and scraped through! Mine only has a back box too??

Ye, Just changed oil and all filters. Going to flush coolant tomorrow and put in new temp sensor. Have located a 2nd hand MAP sensor so will also try that too!
Getting tired of racking my brains with this!

Thing is I live in Plymouth and where the tester is it is not really possible to thrash it apart from driving in low gears as don't want points or a crash to deal with too!

So, new cat, new lambda, new ecu coolant sensor, flushed with redex, serviced engine, new sparks, cleaned air filter, standard intake, standard exhaust manifold, checked exhausts for leaks, reset ecu, drove from Plymouth to Bristol on motorway and straight into exhaust analyser and.........Failed!
Car now off the road and completely stumped.

Does anyone have the slightest bit of advice? O ye and no fault codes!

Cheers,

Matt

Shocking.

Did you do anything with MAP sensor? Surely this is something the dealership should be able to sort out.

Hi Toad,

Ye replaced MAP sensor. Catch 22 now as have no MOT so can't drive anywhere now:(

Jeez...

I'm not sure what you can do now. Have you ever got on the blower to Citroen, asking for some advice?

Ye, i'll try again. They just say bring it in and we'll plug it in but its been done with no faults to show!
Annoying as I love my car and spend a lot of time and money trying to keep it nice and well maintained.
Sorry to winge, just feeling a bit dispondant!
Thanks for your advice mate, i'll be sure to let you know the problem IF its ever sorted, It might be the cars way of saying it needs a new engine as 113k for a GTI is pretty good I think?

Hmmm... I wonder if it the engine really does have something to do with it. I'm really not sure what would cause high CO levels than normal though. Toughy...

Apparently it is breathing heavily so could be incomplete combustion. Might try cleaning injectors properly!

hi, did you ever sort this problem? as my car is doin exactly the same, also failed mot on CO emissions, also changed lambda, coolant temp sensor etc. just wondered if you ever found the problem as this was quite some tim ago now.
