Not sure on Vista, but have you an external hard drive ben and put everything you want on that, and re format the laptop. Last resort of course.

Could always try to do it manually, Remove all files, registry keys and startups.

Not recommended unless you know what your doing tho.

we've tried this, dad bought a 500gb External harddrive last night but the laptop just doesn't connect (via USB) so we cant transfer the files. We've tried putting it on cd and everything but after about 4 or 5 mins the laptop just completely freezes up. It does it even if your not doing anything with it!

PC World (where the laptop came from) are about as much use as a chocolate tea pot too

As for the Laptop usb, right click my computer, and go to "manage" and change the external hd, drive letter, as sometimes if you plug it in, it will not show as another drive has taken the letter that the external hd wanted. worth a try, it should not just not work.

Absolutly right =P I personally hate Vista.. Does it freeze up generally when you're doing stuff, or just when you're trying to burn CD's and Connecting the External Hard Drive?

I can leave the laptop doing nothing, just on main screen and it will freeze after about 5 mins. This is why i cant remove norton as it takes too long lol!

I hate vista too. absolute cack!

How much Ram has the computer got, if it freezes while its doing nothing, I suspect a fault, take it back Ben doesnt sound right.

Not sure if this works for vista but it's a symantec removal tool,

Have you made any major changes on the laptop in the last week then?

Have you tried booting into safe mode and uninstalling it that way?

Ben_L

no changes at all tbh. We;ve tried loading it in safe mode and it says that you cannot remove the program in safe mode and setup will exit

hmmmm....

Have you performed a virus / spyware / adware check? (doubt you'll be able to though from what you're saying)
