Read the tyre wall - it says on there.

But standard vtr tyres are 185/55 R14

Yeh i could have but iv had to leave the car where it is along the road coz of the snow.
I was going up a hill and my wheels were skidding like fook and other cars (even a pichy nova) passed me, what tyres should i change?
the rears?
the fronts?
them all?

thanks

Well before you go out buying tyres, you should really check the tread on your tyres, may not need changing at all! All cars will skid in the snow, all depends on the driver.

Well, the car is front wheel drive, and most of the braking is done on the front wheels also, so i'd suggest if your tyres do need changing, the fronts are the priority.

Bear in mind that each illegal tyre (if yours are) is 3 points and a fine!

Where are you based in the UK? You can get some really good tyre deals if you shop around. You're looking at about £50 a corner fitted for standard michelins.

Ok i let down the tyres to 25 bar, made it easier and better to drive.
The front tyres (both) are down to the mark that tells you to replace but there is still about 1sm of tread left
is this ok?

You've said yourself you're finding lack of grip..... what do you think?

If they're down to legal limit, i'd suggest you get some new ones on quick smart!

If at the tread markers you wont get more than a few months out of them before bald. Best to change now before mister police person finds you...

BTW, I assume you meant 25psi... 25 bar is about 368psi smileys/smiley17.gif Now that would cause grip issues smileys/smiley2.gif

haha @ simo. yeh mate i meant psi.

Yeh ill get them changed.

Is it true *quote* Well, the car is front wheel drive, and most of the braking is done on the front wheels

Yes djbex, most of the braking is done on the front wheels, because as you brake, the weight of the car is thrown to the front which would make the rear wheels more likely to skid, therefore most of the braking is put to the front where most of the vehicle weight is to avoid it happening.

i will be putting vtr alloys on my 1.1 what is the correct tyre pressure?
also
what is the difference with the 'R' part for the tyres?
sorry for stealing thread lol

Nice thread bump. I used to put 32psi in. (185/55/14)

R is for pirate

http://dresswicked.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/arr-pirate-value-t-shirt-dress-wicked1.jpeg

R is the wheel diameter 14"
185 is the tyre width 185mm
55 is the profile as a percentage (height of the tyre 55% of the width 185 in this case 101.75mm)

just seen ur reply quick....cheers

yeah scrolled passed it under the picture lol cheers bud

what a complete cock!

What about the load and speed rating? After the 225/40 R18 there's a little extra, 92Y. That's not correct, that's the only one I remember off my old astra, 92 is the load they can carry and the Y is the speed it's rated top carry that load. It will be a lower number and earlier letter for the Saxo but should be checked imo
