A supply of hot water is available at 180C. After giving up some heat in a heat exchanger the stream of hot water is passed through a pressure reducing valve to a flash chamber operating at atmospheric pressure.
Seperate streams of water and vapour flow from the flash chamber. The quality of vapour coming from the chamber is 90% dry.
The vapour is expanded further in a turbine to 0.1 bar, producing work. For practical reasons the condition of the vapour entering the turbine must be superheated and to achieve this the vapour is first passed through the aforementioned heat exchanger where it is heated to 150C by the incoming water.
The exhaust vapour from the turbine is 99% dry... Calculate the rate of work output from the turbine...
