Took the car for a drive and everything was fine for the 1st 10mins, then a rubbing/squeeking noise started happening. It stops when i put my foot down, but when i let off or drop the clutch, it starts again, its sounds alot like a loose belt, but theres only the timing belt and alternator belt to look at and when the car is idleing it doesn't make a noise so i can't tell what it is. My mate thinks its the alternator belt, but if anyones got any other theories, let me know.

Cheers guys

I have exactly the same prob in my 2000 VTR. smileys/smiley19.gif It goes as soon as I accellerate and comes back when I put the clutch in or let the engine slow. It also only seems to happen in 4th or 5th

Any ideas much appreciated smileys/smiley5.gif

sound like the alternator belt.when you accelerate, a load is put on the belt, therefor it doesn't sqeak. try driving with your lights off(during the day!) then turning them on. if the sqeaking goes away when the lights are turned on then it's the alternator belt. smileys/smiley4.gif

The lights trick didnt work, nor did putting on the wipers, de-mister, CD and winding windows up and down!

Driveshaft is that expensive? smileys/smiley19.gif

I had the same problem with the squeaking noise. I found out the fluid had leaked out from the drive shaft, so that’s why it was squeaking. Because I drove the car with no fluid I needed both drive shafts replacing. I didn’t pay anything though as the car is still under warranty. But I think a drive shaft is like £150. Correct me if I am wrong.

Yep its a drive shaft prob. Just checked it and the drivers CV boot clip has fallen off and there is grease everywhere on the wheel. smileys/smiley19.gif

I have booked in to have it re-greased as happarantly its special transmission grease that comes with the boot. Hopefully its not too buggered and doesnt mean a new shaft...

Anyone know about the grease or how much a shaft costs fitted? Is it an all in one unit as I only will need the drivers side?

Where was that from?

Did the fact that the CV clip went make you have to get a new drive shaft? I was hoping to repack it with grease and everything will be sorted smileys/smiley4.gif

the problem is how long has the cv joint been exposed to the elements? it could have been months and if its making that sort of noise chances are it is fucked and repacking with grease wont really help but best to try the cheapest option first

I can get a shaft 4 £35 but thats from my work
u can buy a cv boot on its own and that comes wi the clip and grease

Regreased the CV and sealed up the clip. Noises seem OK. Hope it lasts...
