:panic: Just phoned the co-op car insurance only to find I can't modify my car in any way... what the hell! When I bought my policy I was told that I could do modifications other than engine modifications... I've just been told that they don't support any modifications at all and that my insurance will be void if I fit any type of aftermarket alloy wheels :wall:
What can I do lads, I've been with the co-op for quite a while and this has just done my head in completely. Should I renew or sit it out and get my years no claims as a Named driver :ponder:
I've been with the co-op since September.

I'm going to be with this car for around 3 years as it's the only car I can afford whilst at Uni. Thinking of a VTR but I doubt I'll be able to afford the insurance, and this car has been spot on for the last 5 months-one problem, a load of work done in the past. Kick in the b*llocks for me now.
Going to ring a friend whose brother has a highly modified clio (carbon bonnet, buckets, cage, induction etc.etc.) with co-op.
Just did a quote with quinn, with alloys my own name and by september next year-£1590.62 Now surely that's a bit steep...:panic:

Just rang my mate who has been with co-op for around 3 years now, had one bump and one modified nova. He told me that (whilst disturbing his engineering seminar) it was complete and utter b*llocks and that he's giving co-op a call tomorrow to discuss his car to see what they say.
To be fair I know loads of people with co-op and they're the sort of people that would declare their midifications.
I'm a tad p*ssed off at the moment as the wheels I've been looking at he's selling for around £260 :wall: and it looks like i won't be able to buy them now.

it could be your age.
Get a years no-claims under your belt, then move to a different company when renewal comes. Don't get too cut up that you can't modify for the next 8 months..

Just spoke to a few people on co-op who have also been informed that they can modify yet pay extra money, but looking for a lot of money for aftermarket items etc. I spoke to my best mate who then contacted his dad, then his brother (all with Co-op) and his brothers car isn't excactly standard:

They asked me what It was they asked for? I said I just asked if I can modify my car in any way and how much would I be looking at.
We figure that because the bloke on the end of the phone "Martin" seemed a bit of a numpty he may have just wanted to say no.
They asked me, "did he ask your age?"
"Nope"
"You see when my mum asked she was told she could fit aftermarket wheels.... Did they ask if you were fully comp or Third party?"
"didn't ask, and I'm third party mate"
"They didnt ask? Well if you're third party surely it won't make any difference to them, as if anything happens you'll be paying for all repairs to your car, but I'm fully comp, back on my Nova I was TPFT... and I havent got any no claims neither mate due to the guy pulling in front of me, so that can't be it neither"
So I've been reccomended to give them another call as long as I don't get "Martin" and ask again telling them full details of my policy.
What does everyone think?

I rang the co-op for the second time, and got through to a much more helpful bloke.. Alaghir or someone. He told me that I was misinformed when I took out my quote because the Co-operative insurance no longer deals with any sort of modification due to wanting to become more competitive within the market... (this is quite misleading and confusing-can they not be bothered to compare their price for alloys with other insurers?) They stopped insuring aftermarket parts 2 years ago I was told. :n:
I asked for any sort of upgrade to the insurance, such as a modifying insurance policy.. they told me they had finished that as it wasn't succesful.
So now I'm somewhat in a mess as to whether to keep the 1.1 through september and not buy a vtr (Saving myself money) and try to modify the 1.1 during next year? I'll grab some quotes. :p
