just bought a y reg vts, its done 52000 miles and its just cut out on me, basically all ive done today with the car is drive from bradford to lincoln (70 miles) and its been fine, then i fitted the stereo from my old saxo into the vts, went for a spin and as i turned the radio up it went off, all the dials went down and the dash lights went off, engine was still running though, then everything came back on, so i unplugged the stereo, now this happened again when i switched the lights back on after stopping the car further down the road, again engine stayed on, 3rd time i was doing 30 mph and went to switch the rear window heater on and i lose all power, lights, brakes EVERYHING and the dials stayed where they were (30mph, 2000 revs etc etc), now i carnt start the car or anything, dad thinks its the main fuse thats blown ( maybe under the bonnet i dont know) anyone got any ideas, its fucking dangerous if it keeps happening.
cheers

power issue then. battery/alternator?
Im just guessing, but my advice would be to get it to a mechanic so he can run a fine tooth comb over it!

Hmmm, Id check things myself before wasting money ...
Check the altenator with a multimeter, and check the earthing connection. No Idea where this is on the Saxo though.

right we dont think its alternator or battery related else the lights would have dim before cutting out and they never did, is there a big main fuse under the bonnet?
cheers

There's the fuse box under the bonnet, on the right. There's an Interior one too under the glove box. Just check the fuses then. Electrical problems always seem really bad cos the effects, but usually not expensive to sort.
