Before i start dont shout im just interested in other peoples veiws or is it just me being silly.

Over the years ive had my fair share of cars. In my opinion French Cars Are Shit.

Ive always wanted a Saxo loved the look of them since they came out now ive got one its kinda funny my love for them has died some how. Still love how it looks and to be fair it goes pretty well for a 1.6 but it always feels like im going back in time and getting into the Pug 205 GTI i used to have kinda the same to drive and similar inside even some switches are the same etc 205was i great icon but years ago and the Saxo is kinda a bit of one but at the end of the day i feel both were / are a bag of shit when you look into the pro's and cons of each. Dont get me wrong i still like it just not as much as i thought i would.

What do you think. Honesty please

ive always liked french cars, our family has had them for many year

604,205, 405 van and estate, 106, 406, 206, and they've never failed us.

french cars are crap build BUT on the plus factor the french put the VA VA VOOM into the vtr/s as they do look nice I would love it tho if saxo's was 4 wheel drive or if you could switch from 4 wheel to fwd or rwd. would haev made the car alot safer.

The french make some really good handling cars which makes them really fun to drive. I've driven a 205 and a clio as well as my saxo and they never fail to put a smile on my face:p

I loved my Saxo and can't wait to get another one. I agree the Saxo was very dated in terms of it's gadgets and probably comfort and build quality, even when it first came out. But to be honest they are so much I couldn't care less.

Some people want creature comforts and a 'detatched' driving style. Some people like to have fun and like a car which gives you feedback. Some are homos and some are real men respectively.

But seriously my saxo has been nothing but problems. battery goin flat loads of times. PAS stopped working. a right pain to lower. Sump is leaking oil. Mirror broken. had needed 3 new windows (not the cars fault lol). Rear axle nearly fell off :n:... and the rest. But still i love my car :panic:

hmmmmmm, i know the saxo is shite build quality but i think the fact its fun to drive and cheap to fix is what makes it into a decent car for me imo

maybe when im looking for something sensible it wouldnt be a car id chose but at the min i want something fun and cheap

I know exacly what you mean. I've driven the current crop of superminis over the passed few weeks as Mrs Campo (fuck you to all who thought I was gay!) needs a new car.

All of them are lovely. Even in base spec they are laughably better than my old VTS. The have damped grab handles, digital displays everywhere and are spec'd better than my Dad's Merc was 10 years ago.

Against modern oppersition the Saxo is plain dead in the water. As a car it just isn't in the game against modern opposition.

Fun though is a completely different kettle of fish. The best hot hatch of today is the Renault R26, and it is an amazing car. The 205 GTI though on the same roads is sooooooo much more exploitable and fun. The VTS too is a much more enjoyable thing to pick out braking points with than the Renault.

The Saxo VTS is still, and will always be a fabulous car to drive on a good road, everywhere else it's plainly shit compared to any modern car, but it depends what matters
