Was coming home from town with the gf and a white astra estate had pulled out on a young lad (about 16-17ish) on a ped.
The front of the ped had been ripped off and there was minor cosmetic damage to the astra.

It did look nasty. Fair enough it was an accident and the person driving didnt see the ped till the last second obviosly. But the thing that got me was the people that stopped and them involved had moved him to the pavement and removed his helmet. He was responding when i saw him.

I just cant understand why you would do that, if the lad has neck or spine injuries and you have just moved him and removed his helmet you could have done serious damage and if so, fetch your lawyer. For the sake of causing people to be delayed and stuck in the traffic should have left him where he was imo not worth taking the risk.

This didnt happen infront of me, i arrived just as the ambulance did but it was clearly obvious what had happened. He couldnt have landed on the pavement.

Just thought id share that with you, if you learn anything dont move anyone in a situation like that if its a car, bike or pedestrian accident. let the paramedics or amulance crew do it. Get a blanket or whatever, try and keep them warm and talking reassure them its ok help is on the way.

How would you feel if some idiot moved you and you were now unable to walk or worse?

Rant/lesson over :y:

Should have just left him where he was and made him warm, shouldnt have taken his helmet off or move him, as you said injuries may not be seen my unproffesional eye..

On the bright side.. if he survives, he can sue the idiots that moved him.

only if they can prove that the people who moved him caused any damage...

Some people are really stupid. Everyone knows you don't remove it. I remember when I was in Brighton a few months back and in front of us a kid was knocked off his moped. Old folk came over and we're saying, 'Are you OK?.. Take your helmet off.' I said 'No, leave your helment on!' and rang 999. He was alright just a few scrapes, but thats the worst thing to do! lol

f*ck me, it's in the theory. End of the day some people need to go back and do a re-sit. If they were worried about him being knocked by another car I would of parked my car say a few metres along the same stretch of road to block him off and signalled to others there was an accident, whilst someone looked after the dude till the ambulance arrived. You never remove the helmet or move the victim :panic:

Thats like rule number 1. Do not remove helmet and do not move. If people did basic 1st aid they would know that or if they had just a little bit of common sense.

Just to confuse matters ever so slightly, what if the casualty is not breathing?

Answers on a postcard please.

on the legal side, sh*te all we can do I expect. But if thats the condition I suppose you have to go by your own judgement. You ring the ambulance crew they get back to you stating when the ambulance shall arrive, they'll instruct you to whether remove the helmet. They'll be on the phone till the crew arrive if needs be :y:

If you can give mouth 2 mouth with helmet on (i.e open face skid lid) then u still leave it on and try not to move them whilst sucking face.

If not then you have to carefully move it cos they will die anyway so its all you can do.

Or do what a lot of ppl do at accidents i attend. Either :panic: or slow down for a good look and then complain if they see blood and guts because
"you should have covered them up"

then im like WTF. i hate rubberneckers shud be shot with a captive bolt
(end rant)

well if u were to do a first aid course ( like me :P ) you would learn that actually you should remove the helmet !!! but there is a very specific way of doing it, i probs wouldnt risk it tho unless he wasnt breathing or was unconcious !!

I have a couple of friends that are student nurses (oh yes).

One was telling me a story of a biker that walked into A+E in all his leathers with his helmet still on. He said he just fell of his bike and has got a really sore back. The nurse at the desk asked him to take and seat and he would be seen too.

4 hours went by and eventualy he was called in. After a quick assesment the decision was made for him to have an x-ray with his helmet still in place. All the results were good, no sign of any damage in the areas he was complaining of pain.

They sat him on the bed. Back and neck straight. A male Registrar stood behind him supporting his back and a female nurse slowly slipped of his helmet. Just as the helmet left his head. SNAP. His neck flopped 90 degrees and he was dead. Gutted
