</font>hey wot are your thoughts on the difference between a 106GTI and a VTS? is there a difference??? </font> smileys/smiley5.gif
how u mean power wise?? i dont know 2 be honest i dont think theres much in it but i would have thought the 106 was lighter!
Stef106GTI
7th March 2005, 23:27
power wise i know they are both 120BHP but some places the 106 GTI is said to do 0-60 in 8.6 some say 7.2 others say 7.7 i supose it should be like the VTS maybe the GTI is slightly lighter does that make that much of a difference? i find it hard to keep traction on the front wheels from 5000 - 7100rpm with the standard 14"wheels does the VTS come with 15s?</font>
Andyt
7th March 2005, 23:30
the mk2 vts came with 15's yeah.
Stef106GTI
7th March 2005, 23:37
so off the lights what would win? VTS or GTI? has any1 got a GTI raced a VTS or vice verse??</font>
some of the mk1 vts's came with 15's too! how do u lose traction that far up the rev range an in what gear???
edit: i dont know what would win id say the 106 as its lighter but ive never raced one since ive had the vts conversion!!
Stef106GTI
7th March 2005, 23:42
when i take 1st up 2 the redline need wider wheels i want some white 16" multispokes on 40 low profiles. that shouldnt penalise the performance 2 much...i hope</font>

8th March 2005, 00:10
ive always been told the 106 is heavier smileys/happy.gif and vts is lighter.. and vts would beat if off the mark.. not by much but a little.. and slowly edge forward smileys/happy.gif

the 106 gti has a different box to the vts!!! the 106 isnt geared to hit 60 in second!!! the sax can!! sorry to piss on ur fire!! lol smileys/smiley2.gif
Stef106GTI

DICO_VTS
8th March 2005, 00:26
sure have! The 106 is marked up as a slower 0-62 because of the change to 3 to hit 62!! smileys/smiley2.gif
i didnt know they were heavier as they look smaller!i just assumed the gti ws lighter! i get 70 in 2nd from mine!
but i havnt ever raced a gti!! id like to, to see what would win!!maybe something for fcs's 0-60 track!! smileys/smiley2.gif

Renault Sport Clio 172
At £15,495 the Sport Clio is expensive for a small hatchback, but don't be deceived the Clio has handling to rival Beemer's and Porsche's. It does 0-62 in 7.4 seconds which is quite quick but it's the handling that sets this car apart from the rest. Fifteen grand is a lot so you could go for the old version which can be found for nearer ten grand and is just as good.
Peugeot 106 GTI
The 106 GTI is getting old now, the interior is black and scabby, but the handling is exceptional, oversteer and understeer is there to be played with all the time. 0-62 in 8.3 seconds and a price brand new of £11,795. As this is an old car second hand deals are there to be had, you can pick up early models for about six grand.

FACT: -
When the Saxo and 106 were launched, the respective brochures showed different times for the Saxo and 106.
However, this is more than likely due to the fact that the 106 was booked as 'fully loaded', whereas the Saxo was booked as driver only.
In theory they are both as fast as each other... until you start talking about wind resistance and stuff smileys/smiley23.gif

Krissy_Bufton
8th March 2005, 21:10
depends which 106 GTi ur up against tho!
u could either be up against the 120bhp normal GTi
or the 140bhp Limited Edition 106 GTi with the 2 prongs on the cylinder head and the EGR valve.
in which case, 1 of those would win ;)
Scott
8th March 2005, 21:13
no such thing as a 140bhp one, it was rumoured that these were infact 130bhp and these also came in the saxo (same engine) BUT there has never been any conclusive proof
And the rumoured ones had the two prongs for the egr valve but no egr valve yet
Krissy_Bufton
8th March 2005, 21:30
thats the 1 lol, figure was typo smileys/smiley17.gif
only reason i brought this up was coz i had to sit thru a 5 page debate about prongs just to find out wot 1 was! LOL
hence why i dont know the facts lol
stef i dont know what bhp its running yet i havnt had it tested on a rolling road!
what would do ppl think with the following mods, full s/s system with decat,4-2-1 manifold and pipercross viper. i think roughly 130+bhp???
Stef106GTI
8th March 2005, 22:16
well dan a viper should give u about an extra 8bhp thats what pipercros say anyway then a full system another 5-10BHP so yeah ur prob runnin in the 130s</font>
theres a new rolling road opening near me in the next week or so, so i'll be taking it up there when it opens!
i want some other engine mods such as dastek and piper/kent cams also possibly a fuel pressure regulator from gmc!!
what bout u wots yours running??
Stef106GTI
8th March 2005, 22:40
at the mo its jus 120bhp havin money problems at the moment only had the car a little while. hopefully soon when the stundent loan comes through il get a couple of mods</font>

what do you think looks nicer tho? Id rather have a VTS over a 106Gti anyday. Just my opinion smileys/smiley2.gif
looks wise i dont think theres much in it to be honest but i would have to say the saxo is nicer!
i have to admit i quite like the look of the 106 gti!!
Stef106GTI
8th March 2005, 22:58

i know the subject is pretty much closed but i remember watching a motoring programme once like top gear and it picked 20 or so top cars and lap timed all of them. The 106gti was one of these cars and i think it finished in the top ten some where, it was up against porche's and aston martins basically bigger engined cars and more expensive. its still a bit sketchysmileys/smiley5.gif but i remember the guy on the telly was raving about how well the 106gti did against all these other cars and how it held its own considering its a supermini not a supercar.
my point is there was no vts in that list of cars smileys/smiley7.gif

YOu've kinda clouded the statements there mate.
THe program was top gear and it was jeremy clarkson........it wasnt no where near as quick around a track as the supercars like you say however............
The statement made by clarkson was that the 106GTI was one of the best handling cars about, up there "with" the supercars.

How about a VTR vs VTS, Im a proud owner of a maxed VTR and ive come dangerously close to beating the ass off a VTS (which is owned by a mate)!!! I thought it must be the driving!!!!!!! smileys/smiley17.gif

at the end of the day 106 GTI n a VTS cost about 13k brand new and a super car be 30k upwards so no matter what any1 says pug n citroen have made quality motors for top gear to say its up there with the supercars stuff the supercars its about the hot hatches although if some1 offerd us an M3 or a TVR im sure we wouldnt say no!! lol</font>

I remember that Top Gear with all those cars, very old now but I remember.
There was a skyline R33, subaru impreza, porshce 911 i think, lancer evo 5/6, golf VR6, mitsibishi galant and some other cars that i cant remember. Oh and of course the 106 GTI.
They were compairing the cars handling thats all, not speed. And i think they picked the top 5 cars, the 106GTI came 2nd but cant remember wot came 1st.
They probably didnt put the saxo VTS in because the 106GTI and saxo VTS are pretty much the same car, same engine, same chasis, both weight near the 900KG mark. Would have been no point having both cars on.
One thing i have definatly noticed is that 106GTI's are a lot more expensive to buy than Saxo VTS's, most probably down to that half leather interior. But they both are quite rare cars to see on the road in my opinion. lol unlike VTR's

Peugeot own approx. 80% of citreon so its not suprising the 106gti & VTS are very very simalar, the gbox is sightly clser on the gi ut thats prity much it!
how bout, GTI Vs VTS, and XSI Vs VTR???? then winners Vs winners???
my mate (andy for those of you at the bristol cruise remember Mr pular man?) had a 106gentry this is a 1.6 8v same as VTR it eats GTI's.... easy! just with a zorst, manifold, ind. kit & 106rally gearbox...
case closed i think tho the engines are the same full stop...

just had a look, it would appear up to around 97 models were the 1.4 and then there was a 1.6 so both rightsmileys/smiley4.gifsmileys/smiley14.gif
