Ask at the local nick for advice, do you have the officer's number?

Make sure that you go sooner, ask to speak to someone who can make a note of the fact that you want to pay, ensure you get their name.

Is your car something like Selwyn Froggat's?

all i can think, is that when i was at work last week, my mum used my car to take aload of stuff to the tip from her shop, so unless she thought it was paper rubish n chucked it out :/

think i should just go down to the station??

i know the police man by name who gave me it

Go to your local station, explain the situation and give them your reg number, they'll just look it up on their computer.

Serves you right for lending your mum your car smuuut.

What is a "number plate night out"?

Is it a night on the town with a load of number plates instead of friends???

I lost a parking ticket i got up in sunny scotland.

Thing was it was my last day at work up their went to pay it and the place was closed, town hall it was, anyway i had to go back to work and the place was closed when i finished i headed home lost the ticket and never heard anything since.

however i did sell the car a few days after i got home so not sure if they will chase the car for it and not me ?

Wouldnt recommend not paying it mind you i would love to pay it just dont know where

Would it not make more sense to give a warning for things like a light out? The bulb could have fused when the lights were switched on, or do the police expect people to pull over and check that all their lights are working before carrying on with their journey?

police expect you to do a 5 million point car inspection before you go anywhere.
just because they have someone do theres for them.

I think we all dream of the day when we get pulled over by a police car with a headlight out..

Im sorry but i dont believe that. SEO's (Station Enquiry Officers) dont have hand cuffs plus they have no powers to do so. How can she justify handcuffing you? that's a big no-no. You may have been given the caution but thats normal, it doesnt mean you are under arrest. All it means is that the SEO will report you for document offenses and you will have so long to bring them into the station. A simple PNC check on the police system would reveal who the car is registered to and wheather you have insurance / MOT / license ect, but it IS an offense to not have the documents on you at the time (Stupid i know but it's the law).

Unless you were violent there is no reason atall you should have been cuffed in the station.

£30 fixed penalty is abit harsh for a number plate light out, normally you would just be told to sort it, unless you mouthed off then you probably would get a ticket.
