Right I need some advice on this one, i'm looking to take a gap year even though I finished University 2 years ago, has anybody on here taken a gap year?

If so, what did you do, did you travel, volunteer or what?

Any help appreciated!

Dont know much about them, but my friends have taken a gap year, worked right up untill now and left to go travelling on friday for 8 months!!!
Think there amazing oppertunities and theres so much things you can do whilst your away, would have loved to have gone myself but i may be flying out to meet them in aug!!

Id look into what you would like to do, and rough traveling costs, accomidation costs, where you would like to go ect.. lots of planning lol

Lots of info on the web!

Found one just before, working as a kayak instructor in New Zealand

£500 per month
All accomodation, meals and uniforms provided

Gotta pay for my own flights but it's not too bad!

Was meant to be going to Africa for September and October to help build a medical centre, but got the funding pulled on the project!

Looking at going for a full year :A:

If you are going to have a gap year, do something that will look good on your CV.

Catching syphilis and crabs in Phuket, is not a good career move however, helping to teach English to Thai schoolgirls (with all the attendant benefits!) is seen as a positive.

Yeah that's what i'm intending to do, however teaching english i would need to learn it myself first!

V you seem quite a cultured man, did you do one or have you done any travelling?

what websites have you been looking at for ideas ?

if you have finished uni i would suggest doing something to improve career prospects instead of just random travelling.

Travel? Bits and pieces. Got a hankering to see Shackleton's grave on South Georgia though... anyone in the Navy, go see drafty for a chitty to play with the penguins.

South Georgia, Grytviken.

Do it, but make sure you arrange work or have enough money. I came out to N.Z with the impression I would find work easily. I could have done, but wanted to work in a job which I could learn something about my profession and have spent the last month hunting a job which I will enjoy and learn from. It's shite pay, and I'm lucky enough to be staying with my sister at the moment so I could 'afford' to not work the last month, if I wasn't staying with her then I would either be working at Subway or on a flight home by now.
