sold my saxo VTR, couldnt afford it no more as im outta work, My sisters mate was selling a 1.2 SXI corsa £500 wi few problems, said why not, got few mates who are mechanics, so hopefully get it done cheap. The problems are:
1) Loss of power - have to stay in 2nd gear uphill and basically rev the arse off it, if i change to 3rd, it slows down gradually, and setting off at roundabouts, junctions etc, if i don't slip the clutch like hell, theres just no power there at all, even when foots down to floor. The seller says she thinks its something to do with the spark plugs, so i'm gonna get some more tomorrow as there only cheap, and put them in, and hopefully see a difference.
2) Steering to left - Severely steering to the left, she said the trackings out, but it must be something else, the steering column maybe? I don't know, i'm gonna take it to a garage tomorrow and see whats wrong and how much etc, but as i don't know anything about cars, i'm just wondering if anybody may know what the problems are? Also the engine management light is always on, something to do with the emissions i think, and the MOT runs out on the 8th this month.

Its a really nice looking car, and for £500 its a bargain apart from these problems with it, but even if i pay £400 to get it fixed, its still a bargain i'd say. Any suggestions pls?

My corsa was the same because i blew the heads off the spark plugs..

could also be the MAF sensor...which is on the airbox piping.

my corsa run dog rough because of that aswell!

Yes it stopped once i put the spark plugs in.

I think its a MAF sensor on them...

its between the throttle body and the airbox.

ill try get a picture now mate.

buy a new sensor.

which won't be cheap! unless you got a second hand one from ebay or something.

could try getting a complete new airbox!

so if i just bought a new K&N induction kit, and fit that would that work?

Jackman

so if i just bought a new K&N induction kit, and fit that would that work?

Nope.

because it wouldnt replace the sensor.

you'd need a need to get hold of a standard airfilter.

god dam all this is so confusing to me lol. I know jack about cars, well i'll try the spark plugs from halfords tomorrow, think there only cheap? How many does a 1.2SXI have? 4 or 6? If that doesn't work i'll try sorting the MAF sensor out

Pulling to one side could be a bent suspension part!

Deffo 4 spark plugs as it a 4 cylinder engine!

just got 2 new tyres and it seems to be a lot better now, they was very worn the others.
On way back from garage, it started playing up even more. Stationary, it was just under 1000 revs, put my foot down, and it went lower than 1000 revs, had to keep my foot on the accelerator and slip the clutch like hell to get going, then let clutch fully up and it just dies again. Major problem here, any help please? Looks like a blockage or somet somewhere

sounds like the MAF sensor as said above, try cleaning it with some contact cleaner, this might help

EDIT: thats just for the cutting out bit, dunno about the pulling to one side...

I'd give it a service oil, plugs, filters, clean & check as much as possible and see if that makes any difference!

You cant tell if the sensor is fine by looking at it mate.

You may need to have a diagnostics on it.

But like said im almost positive its your MAF sensor.

I kinda gathered that lol, there was something connected along with the MAF sensor, and my dad lifted this cap thing up, and it started to cut out, as it was letting air in, and he said well at least we know the MAF sensor is working, so i dunno if it is that, but it could be. My mate had same problem with his frontera, he changed the fuel filter and it was fine. Plus i found a brand new one in the boot, so they obviously knew it needed a new one, just forgot to tell me?

sorry for bumping this old thread but still need help.
Ok i changed the fuel filter, it wasn't that, i disconnected the MAF sensor and stationary, it was revving fine, thought yey found the problem, just need a new MAF sensor. Tried driving it today, MAF sensor still disconnected, stationary, revving its ok, but setting off its just the same, soon as you let the clutch up its still the same, just dies, but i wa thinking maybe it still wouldn't run properly without the MAF sensor connected? I don't know because i don't understand cars, but nearly every1 had said its the MAF sensor so Should i still get a new sensor? Thanks for your help

TheVtrKid

sorry for bumping again. Taken car to a garage, he put it on the diagnostics thing, its coming up the EGR valve, so i left it there, he says £100+ VAT plus labour. Could the EGR valve be causing this problem?

Pat_Vts

yes if the garage says it is and they are fixing it, i presume if theyre wrong they will have to pay themselves?
