If it goes a black/grey colour, it will start causing problems with your power steering, had this the other day, had to completely drain it and flush the rest of it out.

that may be the cause of my problem then. the power steering on my sisters saxo has stopped working. the fluid is black.

is it an easy job to drain?

All depends if the four allen / torx screws come out the resevoir

I know when we did it on a street ka the other week, it wasn't difficult, just a bit time consuming as you have to get it all out, draining it, then flushing all the other little bits out with new fluid.

Bare in mind, it will look black when it's all together, however, if you dab your finger in to the resovoir, and then rub it on your hand, it should look like it's got a tint of red to it.

its certainly black.

the underside of the cap is white. the fluid on the white cap was jet black.

it certainly needs replacing i think.

mate it shouldnt look black at all. it should look a dark red at all times. if it has tinge of black it is still contaminated with the old oil. you can pas flushing agent.
