Just wondering if anybody has a bike license on here?

My dads looking at changing his Suzuki Bandit for a Ducati ST4, which got me thinking...... I could buy the Bandit!

I used to have a scooter back in the day! and have always been interested in Bikes, and I'm 21 so could do the direct access scheme.

Qustion is how much does it cost (on average) to complete a bike test? and how hard is the bike test, I know this is based largely on the skill of the individual taking the test but how have people found it? How many lessons does it take etc etc. any advice really

Oh and just a quick pic of a bandit identical to dads, not the most sporty of bikes but its well looked after and immaculate. Only difference is it has a Scorpion exhaust (sounds awesome)

i used to have a bike back in the day, did my CBT which i imagine is a doddle compared to a proper bike test,
Any takers on the bike test details?

i have a bike lisence it really easy the theory is really common sense and i am sure from driving car it will be easy for ur self and to be honest lesson wise it depends on wht the instructor fells ur meant a certain amount of experince before u try ur test but i didnt cus i was driving a 125 on a provisonal. know got 600 ninja loving it!!!

what would i need to drive a 125 husky? could i not drive that on a full car licence?

Direct access is around £400 i think mate, then you have to buy things like helmet and leathers etc. this aint a moped no more you cant ride around in trackies and a t-shirt, tax on a bike is normally next to nothing, only things that can be expensive are insurance and clothing.

nope you need a CBT, and if its a manual bike you need to do your CBT on a manual obviously. None of this twist and go crap.

£400 doesn't sound too bad. I've already got protective gear which I had for my moped, helmet, protective jacket and gloves etc.
I got a quote but based it on already having the bike license (just passed) and with no NCB, thrid party fire and theft it came to £265, which IMO is pretty good!

yeah thats good tbh. although think full comp might be a better option for a bike. I really want a bike, the missus wont let me. but we've finally come to an agreement that i can get one in 3 years when she finishes her uni or when she gets a car.

Theres a bike test centre about 500yards from work so I might pop in and ask them about it.

Hopefully one day will get the MV Augusta F4, that I've wanted since I first saw one!

nope you cant drive a bike on a full care lisence you need a full bike lisence in order to get above a 125

i spent £330 mate, plus a theory test, within 3 days i had a bike license

got my babyblade (cbr400rr) sat in the garage now payin £44 a month to insure it, im 18 with 3 points

definetly worth it mate, before october when it all changes!!

you will be a lucky b**tard though, an ST and a Bandit at 21

I could afford to do it, but might have no pennies to mod the ST :n:

I've heard that it changes in October so would like to do it before then, think Dad wants 1k for the Bandit and then it would be insurance and test on top. Will have to think about it. Pity he doesn't want to sell in couple of months then I could save a bit.

Anypics of your bike mate?

I did mine over 3 days mate. This was a few years ago though. I think around the £400 mark is fairly reasonable.
Counter-steering. Remember to ask the instructor about this. It's the one thing that caught me out. And I binned my brand new SVS onto a grass verge. In a nutshell, you push the bars right to go right.
Bandit's a good bike to start on though mate. Still not a lightweight. Maybe something like a CB500 / GS500 /ER5 might be a good option. Below was my first bike, can't rate it highly enough. And the V-Twin engine with a race can sounds the nuts.

Give it a few years, build up your NCB and most importantly - experience, and get yerself one of these. :afro:

Cheers for the info mate, I've sat on and manouvered the Bandit a few times and its quite heavy, that TBH is one thing that puts me off. If I don't buy my Dads then I'll definetely think about doing my test before it all changes.

Nice bike by the way, love em' :y:
Would love a gixer or similar, will have to get experience first though

Not a prob mate, best of luck.

Remember though, there's no going back. Once you've experienced the rush of a fast bike, nothing comes close. Ever.

Well, maybe all the female cast from Hollyoaks in a room full of baby oil, but I doubt it.

Ta mate. Still have a prob chasing a good rider on a babyblade like yours though. Soooooooo good through the bends! Which you no doubt know.

Really would like a bike for the summer.

If I got on the bike in 5mins I would be at the start of the Cat and Fiddle and in 30mins could be on the snake pass, two of the best roads :y:

God its so tempting!

Stubbsy

As Nike say. Just do it.

Make sure you're on the best rubber you can buy, take it easy, look out for cagers not paying attention and build up your speed and cornering slowly.

I've been knocked off twice, once by a car, once by a pedestrian. It proper fuckin' hurts, so ride defensively when you're in built up areas.

I`ve got my full license but no bike at the moment. One thing I will say is the bike will only go as fast as you make it. As long as you are sensible and get used to the power first before pushing it a little bit you will be fine. bandit is a good first bike. I went from an RG125 straight onto an RSV1000. Scared the shit out of me for the first week!!!

Another reason that makes me want to do it is my mum passed away in July and she used to be pillion with my dad. If I had a bike he would have someone to ride out with :y:

I'd take it very easy untill I was used to the bike, no point pushing it untill you can handle it properly.

Stubbsy
7th February 2008, 13:29
There you then mate. Another good reason. And riding with your Dad will be a good learning process.....................unless he's a hooligan!

will cost about £600 it also depends on where you do it of course. but the price of insurance will give you a heartattack tbh

josh1989

mine is £500 a year and im 18 mate, on a bike that will outhandle almost anything on the market, and with a 0-60 of under 5 seconds (4.4 i think) i dont think its a bad price!

obviously an R6 is in the region of £1800, but to have that as a first bike wouldnt be wise, and would be pointless unless you knew how to ride

properly

i personally wouldn't say a cbr will outhandle any other bike, found kwak ninja responded better, and r6's are awesome

but i'm not knocking the cbr, terrific bike tbh

But you're talking about the CBR6 though?

He's got a 400rr, and believe me, those little blighters, and the ZXR400 handle bloody well.
Average rider v Average rider on the twisties, 400 wins, hands down.

Sorry mate, I meant that for az_mk.

I'd still go for an SV over a Bandit though dude. But it's all down to personal choice at the end of the day, and whether you like the inline 4 or V-twin engine.

Got home last night and asked Dad if he was going looking at the Ducati at the weekend, and he wasn't sure. He said he was too attached to the bandit to sell it.

So I said why don't I buy it! He thought it was a great idea and solve his dliemma, so Saturday I'll go up to the bike training centre and ask them some questions.

Dad also said he'd do me the Bandit at a 'dirt cheap' price and I could even pay him for it weekly :y:
Even if he decides not to buy the Duke I think I'll still do my bike test before it all changes in October

Everyone seems to be rating the Bandit as a good learner bike. Thadogg, fair enough as his Dad's going to do him a good deal, for others though, there's much better bikes to learn on.
The Bandit is a totally capable bike, although in it's class, the Hornet is sexier and quicker.
It's a heavyweight, about 200kg, IIRC on the old shape, the newer model is even heavier. An SV / SVS saves you 30kg minimum on weight and is lot nimbler. Power delivery on a twin is more learner friendly as well. Or the option of the 500's........
Just saying, look about before taking the Bandit route that everyone seems to keep favouring.

The new 'Blade weighs less than the Bandit 6!
