well i dont know for a VTR but general points are...

- check for odd noises from the engine.
- check all panels for even gaps between the next panel. (could be a crash and cheap cover up)
- check for parts changed and when (and if the owner has proof of it)
- if the owner is awear of any problems with the car.
- ask where the car is kept most of the time and look for oil on the floor (to show possible leaks)

um... cant thinkof any more really good ones. but thats for cars in general nopt just VTRs

hoped it helped in some way.

also...

-check under the bonet for any oil leaks that have happened.
-ask what oil they use. (good oil is better ofcourse)
-cold start it see if it starts first time, then leave for about 5-10mins, then turn it off and start is again (hot start) again see if it starts straight away
-lower millage is better

just check the service history, and if the seller is genuine, cant really tell if its a good car or not just by lookin at it!

whats the milage on it? if 60 - 80k check to see if it has had a clutch, as that is the average life expectancy of one fitted at the time of production!

cambelt needs doing at 75k, but obviously better if done beforehand, then every 20k after that, just to be safe!

the rear pads on the vtr are also very thin compared to front pads when new, so obviously will need replacing more often depending on how harsh the driver has been braking, i know its minor, but may save you a few quid, or give you a reason to knock em down!

Thanks for the replies guys, its at 64 k at the moment, its sorn tho so ill have to get it taxed, its a 2001 y plate its owned buy a girl at the moment, but she has allready told me that her bf was the owner before and that he had 130 and 125 that she claimed! and yes the back pads are worn she has some ebc green stuff for the back but they havent been fitted, i suppose ill have to see what condition its like on saturday
