On the way home from work tonight and got stopped by traffic police. Gave me a fixed penalty notice for french pressed plates! :( Look really good on the car and only had them on for about a month now! Policeman said that he could have give me 3 points as well as they are having a national crackdown on plates that don't conform to the standard.
Just a warning to the rest of ya with french plates!
Now gotta order some with GB font and GB strip, more money on top of the fine :( :wall:

Sold as show plates for a reason mate;)
Bad luck though. I've not been pulled for my plates. Rear one is legal, front one is chopped but legal font/spacing. I'm sure all new plates have to have the British Standards stamp on them

can you have pressed plates with the GB marks on them and they be legal?

No, I'm pretty sure Baz got fined for his. Don't think pressed plates are legal here as they aren't as reflective as normal plates also

Im not sure i know what French Plates are...?
I just got mine made from a local wee dodgy garage that cost me a fiver.. lol
Most likely illegal, but the way i look at it, surely they're bound to stop the tractor in front of me first which is half on, half off the pavenent.. which happens every day!

It's the fact people buy them knowing full well they are illegal then cry about getting a fine. Yes, I know mine are illegal but if I ever get a fine I'll pay it and have them changed :)

You wouldn't need to "try" if you got pulled. You have 2 certain assets that would more than likely get you off the hook

Exactly what I was thinking of. You'd lead the coppers around every street in the west mids before losing them at the 4783589734945604782047591741024610th pub you pass;)

Not really bothered about the fine tbh! Just warning other people who may get pulled and not be so lucky!
I asked the officer who stopped me if it mattered if the plates were pressed and he said no as long as they were standard uk font with a gb strip!

tbh it should be a case of no different lettering other then what is standard and a straight fine for anyone who does it, saves alot of hassle then also people trying to break the barrier very slightly
