View Full Version : Regret Buying My VTR - HELP!

So the time has come and i've invested in a black saxo VTR - bog standard...

When i viewed the car, the car was perfect, no major signs of damage and the interior and engine were in great condition... super low mileage and drives like a dream, just serviced, brand new MOT but no tax.

After getting it home and handing over my well earned cash i noticed the O/S wheel arch had unclipped itself from the bumper and on closer inspection it looks like its been in a bit of a crash.

Bought it sold as seen so its my own fault for not taking a proper hard look at it.

The damage isnt too bad but the bonnet doesnt line up properly either...

Do you think i should sell it quick or get it repaired properly???

Im scared to take it to a garage incase the damage is bigger than it seems.

This is my first post on here so hey everyone :)

its got a whole year on the MOT it was MOT'd on the 1st february... The car was quite cheap so no big loss if the chassis is twisted like a cheese straw :P

have a look your self, if its not a case of everything is out of line it may have only had a lil bump on the wing, they are crap for crashes so just because the bonnet doesnt line up and the plastic on the arch isnt on properly doesnt mean its been in a big crash to be honest mate, more like a 5mph bump on the wing. get it to a garage ask if they can put it on the ramps just to have a quick look see if theres any damage, epxpain you just bought it and think maybe its had one and maybe theres something needs checking on that side of the car (all teh garages i know would gladly do that for free)

true dat when selling mine the inside ofthe drivers arch the black plastic to stop water getting in was a tiny bit not on properly as they are held in with pathetic plastic nuts, anyhow the guy went "oooo its been in a crash this" i was like dont be stupid and explained what it was "anyhow he was being an ass to i basically told him to go and stop wasting me time

josh1989 i mean the kit arch, it looks like theres a clip thats meant to hook under the front bumper... when i looked close the bumpers hanging too low for the clip to go in and stay in

ohh don't worry about that then, some scrote probably tried robbing it once, is the clip still there? superglue ftw!

yeah the clips still there... i just need to try and wedge the bumper up a bit higher to get the clip lined up. other than that just the tiny panel under the o/s front light needs to be lined up a bit better... as soon as i know the cars okay i can install all the bits and bobs from my old clio :P 2 12" subs amp 4 6x9' and a lovely cd player rather than the standard Radio Cassette thats making my saxo look silly :P

Mm, I knocked my arch liner(what you'd talking about) by going through a hidden puddle! The force of the water can knock them and break the clip.

It actually knocked the bottom of the wing(where it clips to the side skirt) out as well!

I just put it all back and it holds together well enough without the clips, until i hit another puddle..

yeh it should be fine you could get it checked at an mot station just to be 100% about the underside of the car, but like previously said it'll be a 5mph bump going up a drive or something

looks like the arch has been resprayed but resprayed quite well, its a perfect match to the rest of the body work. Ive checked the MOT on the anti fraud MOT website with the certificate number and its legit and says its passed.. took it to the garage after work but got there just minutes after they had closed.. busy tomorrow so ill go there first thing monday morning... tracking seems to be out, pulling to the right slightly - only noticed on the way home when taking my hands off the wheel to answer my phone hehe... might have been a bigger bump than we all thought

take it to a garage to get looked at and just because it says it past its MOT dosent mean ite legit cause theres a few garages by me who will pass them for a little bit extra cash in hand

Don't be scared to take it to a garage because of what you may find, as the consequences of not taking it could be worse.

I take it you didn't hpi it?

If its been in an accident and was recorded then it should be listed on the V5.

Although you can get CAT - D removed from an hpi now iirc.

I cant understand the blinkers go on when you're excited about buying a car. Which is why its a good job to take someone with you.

Its not the end of the world btw mate, how much did you pay?

jay-vtr
9th February 2008, 20:41
£1600 its got 65k miles a bit of service history here and there, cambelts been done. interior is mint and no dodgy halfords add ons :P

Went to the body shop near to me and their going to put it on a jig and just bring the slam panel forward, bend the wing back into line, replace the arch, bit of paint and... job done :)

Gotta wait two weeks tho cos their body shop is soo busy and only two people work there :(:(:

good things come to those who wait! *touches wood*
