View Full Version : Write off?

Well last night on my way to a mates, some silly old sod pulled out from the left of me straight into the saxo.
It wasn't my fault and I've got the details of witnesses following me etc.
Question is.. is this a write off? I hope not as it's taken me absolutely ages to finish and I've only had it on the road 2 weeks!
The front left arch is where her bumper hit, and has taken the shape of the inner arch, the bumper has popped off and one of my headlight brackets has snapped.
My door has also been bent and crumpled and the strips ripped off, it doesn't seal at the top due to it being bent now.
Luckily I haven't done the chavvy thing of saying my saxo is stock... the rollcage, buckets etc are all on the insurance so I should be ok.
Must say the rollcage door bar stopped any further damage, they are usefull.

its hard to tell from a picture. it depends on if theres anything bent behind the wing. you might get away with it....only just. does it drive?
Edit: thats a nice car that

It got on the low loader without squeaking or scraping, main thing was arch liner sat on wheel due to bumper being off.
Looked underneath and bottom arm etc looks fine, the wing took the impact, just worried about my brand spanking suspension. :(
Cheers saxmaniac, taken me long enough and cost enough,
It's apparently in bradford now at JCT 600 car clinic being assessed,
Courtesy car to thrash about in should be here today or monday, booya.

What car did she hit you with?

Was a mk4 fiesta, the same shape as cracknells' zetec s.
Her car was almost as bad as mine to be fair, so not all bad news.
Drives fine just arch liner scrapes on wheel as bumper is hanging off.
Hope it isn't a write off, love the car.

Cool, but it's in the insurance companies hands isn't it,
I can't just say repair it if they won't pay for it

It's a 60year old woman.
If it was a lad I would have chinned him, I was fuming when I pulled over.
Need to go through insurance as I've had it recovered and alsorts
And Laura, Insurance know about mods, I declared them when I opened the policy, all of 2 weeks ago... :(

same kind of thing happend to me last night but they saw me at last minute and stopped right in front of me wtf and i had no hope of stopping as there its lots of loose stones on the road so i swerved round on other side of road but there was a car coming at me so i swerved back and cause i steered so sharp my back end came round on me but i managed 2 counter steer it but i shit my self anybody else ever lost the backend at 60mph???
i dont think it looks like a write off just looks to be new wing and door but depends if its damaged your steering in any way??? but im no expert

i work at a vehicle recovery company and deal with smashed up cars and insurance companys all the time! from looking at ur pics it could be a write off! it all depends on how much u valued the vehicle when u insured it! if u wanna keep the car buy it back off the insurance company but only prob with that is ur left with a car that needs fixing or u could tell insurance company to fix it and u will pay anything extra to do with the repairs! hope this helps and its a shame bout ya car! think i would cry n scream if anyone hit my yellow vtr! x x

Looking at that mate it should be an easy fix. If it was your fault I would have just taken it home, bouth the parts and called it quits
As it's her fault I would take her to the cleaners. Make sure your insurance company, and hers have your statements as well as any witnesses statements in writing. Next step would be to have a word with a member of staff at JCT600 (on the side) and mention any other bits that need doing before they submit their quote to her insurers

I wish I could mate, I'm not allowed to see it apparently, Fook knows why, Got a few bits that need doing but when they let me know i'll slip that in.

its you car you can see it whenever you like, you pay insurance for a reason same as you can have it go to any bodyshop you want

insurance will write it off, but it wouldnt be hard or that expensive to fix

50/50 imo
depends if they give you a courtesy car and how much labour whoever is reapiring it says they think it will take, weather they use genuine panels (most companies will try and not do on cars older than 3 years, some its 5 years, they will add all that up and it will problalby worth more than yours
wont matter how much you put the value down on the policy as,they will go off the book price for an avarage condition one useually
unless you have an agreed value with them
lyndon
10th February 2008, 12:30
Value i put down was trade value, I didn't put specific, as whatever i put i wouldn't get
