Just wondering if anybody has any ideas about this...

I've just had my headgasket done, but whilst the mechanic was doing it the battery's been drained as the interior light was left on overnight. The battery has been charged back up and the car is getting power. But it will not start as the immobiliser light on the dash is just flashing away. It has been absolutely fine before, no problems whatsoever with the key or anything with the immobilser. It just seems odd that the battery ran out and now it won't accept the key (it is a key with the chip in it, not a keypad type)

I've tried searching for a solution but lots of people have had this or something similar happen, but no-one seems to have posted how they solved it.

Does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be or how I can sort it out? I do have a spare key but it's at mine... Would this be worth a try? Failing being able to sort it out between me and the mechanic I'm going to get an auto electrician to take a look at it.

It's a proper nightmare because I've not had my car for 3 weeks now and was looking forward to getting it back today... no such luck though! :(

If anybody has any ideas to try it'd be appreciated! :)

SOunds like what's just happned to mine last week.

Might be the ECU bust, or even a fuse blown but i'd say ECU, try and get it on a Diognostics machine at a garage or if you have a good mechanic you know get him to test the ECU

It's like the brain of the car, nothing major to be replaced just the unit. Ring up for quotes, best getting a 2nd hand ECU as well mate

My guess anyway

Dont worry. Either take the steering coloum cover off and make sure the imobolizers plugs are connected ok. OR just give it a few bangs aroung the steering coloum. had this issue a few years ago on my saxo. I ended up removing the thing and relpacing it for a new 1.

Well I'm still without my car, tried both keys so I think we're going to start tracing wires. The thing that gets me is it was working fine until the battery was drained.

Just for future reference for anybody who has a similar problem now or in the future I'll post what was cuasing it...

A slight fault with the wiring behind on of the fuses underneath the glove box. I don't know why it suddenly decided to start playing up when it did, but fortunately that was all that was up. It was a nightmare tracing it all to find the fault apprently too! I think it was either F15 or F20
