I am still thinking about whether to sell my 8800GTS V2 graphics card (1 month old worth £220) and buy a xbox 360 elite or PS3 but im not sure which is better!

Can i use my USB keyboard (Logitech G gamer series) and mouse on the xbox / ps3?

The reason being all the best games on pc are unstable on my machine and keeps locking up, also seems to be better games on consols hmmm

pcs are *** ****** FOR GAMES FULL STOP! unless you use the old " you cant beat a mouse for firstperson shooters line" you will be having to fork money out on updating it, playing on a small screen unles you upgrade and buy stuff to play it on a big tv, xbox for live and games - ps3 to say you have nice gadgets pc for internet and football manager. simple :)

and conisdering the price of an xbox your laughing... gta coming out soon,

why don't you just save up and get a ps3? keep your setup.. somethign isn't running right. maybe you've overclocked your machine too much. or putting somethign int hat can't take the overclocked settings. dunno.
You can't beat a PC thats a fact! anyone who says you can should be shot!
Consoles are good for multi-gaming. either with mates in front of a TV etc having a laugh PC is shit for that. Consoels are ok for online gaming in some respects. And yes i think it is possibly to set up mouse and keyboard somewhere along the lines.

I dont really play online games as a rule. Im just fed up of pc locking up, crashing to desktop, incompatibility ect.

I've never seen an xbox 360 in action so i dont know how the graphics compare to the 8800GTS on pc (Full AA and 16x Anistropic filtering)

Karl

Just as good but smoother tbh Daryl.

and why wont you play online?

to me the ps3 is better, but id suggest having ago on them both before buying tbh

It's all about personal preference tbh mate, personally i prefer the 360 not sure why, but i am getting a PS3 soon, but like mentioned play on them both for yourself and see what you think about them tbh!

to be fair a diffrent kind of person plays pc games compared to xbox or ps3 games...

consoles are more for the casual and social gamer, hence strait out of the box and online play..

pc is more techy, e.g. upgrade this graphics card, do that to the sound card and eventually you will be a level 14 dwarf

Karl

pc is more techy, e.g. upgrade this graphics card, do that to the sound card and eventually you will be a level 14 dwarf

LOL!!!

/disagree, depends on the games you are playing.
Daryl seems best off with a console as you need an expensive rig to run the good graphic games on a PC to a decent standard.

DarylVTR

well im an IT Techy by trade so ive always gone that route but to be fair the last 4 games ive bought for it have been shite or crash to desktop!

Does anyone know about using the usb keyboard and mouse? Id hook the xbox upto my 19" wide screen pc monitor aswell as my pc for internet and music.

Your right Karl, however i already have a £220 graphics card so is it worth selling for an xbox or do i stick with it

Games like HL2 and Bioshock run brilliantly.... however cod4, crysis and others crash all the time

Cant be a very good techie if your machine crashes all the time lol.

You forever seem to be buying, ram and upgrading your CPU and Graphics. Surely your going wrong somewhere.

But 360 ftw

Hanuman

pcs are to expensive just to try and get the gaming experience of the xbox, on a smaller tv (generally) pc doesnt have any + over an xbox for gaming full stop. other than a "mouse"

I use both for gaming, but I look at it like this;

An xbox or Ps3 is a simple box of tricks that you shove a disc in and 20 seconds later your playing a game on a big screen, either by yourself, with mates or online. Theres no worries about “is my pc compatable” or “why does it keep crashing or freezing” etc etc. It either works or it doesn’t and all new games are designed to run on it. Its relatively cheap to buy and games, while expensive are within reach of most peoples disposable income. The downsides are that it will never be as good graphically as a high end pc, but theres the downside of the pc…… in order to play the latest games without slow down, freezing etc you need to be constantly up grading your hardware. With the price of decent graphics cards alone at £300+, more ram, maybe a new motherboard etc etc and you’ve spent quite a bit more than the cost of a console.

Its up to you really, do you want ultimate graphics whatever the cost or do you want a quick “sit down and play” gaming experience.

Well so farr i have bought 3 games costing £30 each and never touched them since. My pc is quite a high spec but for some reason i get random crashes and incompatabilities along the line. Tried other graphics cards, ram, ect just seem to be wasting money now. Hate going into shop buying a pc game then realising it wont run propperly and it's a waste of money.

Is there much difference between premium and elite for use on a 19" screen? Id only use it for games not music ect as pc does that.

I have both and prefer the 360, don't know why just seem to play it alot more.

I used to play pc an awful lot bud, but have been converted to a console'ererer. Lot more fun with the lads, night in with beers and FIFA lounge on the go, can't beat it.

If your seriously wanting a console i'd suggest PS3. what does the xbox do more bar have slightly more games....?
if you sell and purchase a 360 your losing/wasting your money.
I don't own either. but my m8s(i.e luke, dane and my other m8s) are 50/50. but we never use the xbos 360 no more. it has load smore games surround sound system buitlt in and everything. but never gets used. ps3 is put on everytime. no yearly fees either. and bluray for future.
yes intime im sure microsoft will say buy this part and u cna play bluray but you'l be buying so many different external parts for the xbox it'l be a pc and you'l why didnt i buy a pc in the end. nehow!
TBH! you'd be appier stayign where you are. if you got problems with compatibility. somethign isn't running right.. maybe you've just upgraded too much or overclocked soemthign that your 1 of ur hardware doens't like at that speed. i never overclock. i rarely see a difference. my opinion. but people like to see stats for that extra 0.2+ like comparing penis sizes.
Stick with PC or atleast mate try and buy an already set system. u have a top notch card and ur machine struggles. yet my pc is low budget and my HD card is running COD4 very nicely. even better on my 26" screen. might take pics later! just love it! online is a bonus! but other games ftw!

DarylVTR
11th February 2008, 22:03
Well i seem to have sorted out crysis, it runs ok if i exit rivatuner and put my graphic card back to stock! hl2 was always fine at 200fps maxed out, as is bioshock, now i just need to fiddle with COD4! It used to crash to desktop randomly, but when it does run it runs maxed out at around 120fps so very smooth. I just get bored of the 'Demo' mission everytime i get to it so stop playing it lol.

Been reading reviews on the PS3 / Xbox 360 and they still think PC is better for overall graphics, im an occasional gamer i guess just get the good titles and classics. Don't play multiplayer or online so maybe tweeking my pc is the way forward. I think i may regret selling my new Zotac 8800GTS G92 512mb as it cost me £220 last month from novatech!

Im currently running Windows XP 64Bit, but im not sure which is the best for gaming.

11th February 2008, 22:24
If you mention how much you payed for that GFX card again, I'll slap it round your chops! :P

Sounds like its a software issue, not hardware anyway. and 64bit XP, are you having a laugh? Get 32bit format and only install things you deffo need. Can pretty much garentee it will be fine from then on.

Pfft call yourself an IT Techy. ;)

Brooksy
12th February 2008, 01:48
yes and no with 64 bit!
64bit i nicer but more hungry! 64bit is better than vista atm by far.

Doubt very much its software fault. maybe control settings software for overclocking.. i use to build pc's and upgraded so much just wouldn't work right crshes blue screens random stuff. took it to pros they said number things. but couldn't fix it. hit n miss. nehow! well seems like ur bk on toes again!
PC won't be beaten for is quality and usage. not for a very long time. not biased but its true.
should get cod4 online il give u a few games on it! :P

There's nothing wrong with the PS3's online capabilities, i wish people would stop banging on about how good the Xbox is online..

What can it do online the PS3 cant do?

You cant browse the net on the Xbox and you have to take it back every month cos it breaks down..

Me and a few other Sax-P members had a good mash up on CoD4 the other night on our PS3's..Nothing wrong with them online at all and before people start going on about acheivements etc, Sony are releasing Home, which is supposed to blow Xbox live into the weeds..

The PS3 can do loads of things the Xbox cant and the things it can do are alot better than the Xbox, for example the visualizations on the Xbox when listening to CD's are feeble, old school Windows media player ones..LOL

The PS3 is a more powerful machine, its just a fact..

Xbox owners face it..Your console is getting old, newer better technologies are on the Horizon and they are from Sony..;)

This is just my opinion, i have played both, my bro has an Xbox and from what i have seen the PS3 is better, hence the reason i bought one..

DarylVTR
12th February 2008, 11:29
Did i mention it cost me £220? LOL

If you mention my IT skills again i shall slap you harder! lol You cant expect a IT Techy to know EVERYTHING about EVERY problem.....I don't live and breath computers lol..... sorry. Infact i don't really wish to persue it as a career in the future, its boring and crap money!

ANYWAY i played crysis last night for awhile, seems to run OK on medium settings.

BTW i was on Windows XP 32bit but it was the same, hense why i changed to 64Bit to see if it cured the problem. Pahhh call yourself an IT Technician? ;)

LOL! I Xbox and PS3 dont even come close to a PC. Only issue with PC is the
hardware costs to run top spec games. But for overall package PC will always
piss over consoles!

Come on people!!!!!
