Hello again.
Recently got some help off here about a couple of things with my VTR. Now looking for a little bit of extra help. Problems include:
(1) slight sqeaking/high pitched sound sound like coming from by the front wheels.
(2) this one is really bugging me ---> A knock when i go over bumps. Person i bought it off has had a back box put on it so i thought initially it may be that but after getting under car it doesnt seem like it. It sounds like it is coming from the front passenger side and i am very paranoid about it. It sounds like a clunk when i go over bumps. Sort of a knock. Not constant just happens the once when i go over something etc. Any idea what it might be.
(3) oh and there is smoke coming from my exhaust. not sure what this is. have been told it is just the damp weather? thanks in advance

1 check ure pads for squeking or if there low and the nocking noise is and antiroll bar link smoke could be the weather depending on the colour and under stress of engine

No 2. Sounds like your drop link. Had the same problem, passenger side knock. I replaced both drop links and no more knocking. :y:

car makes the sound when stationary so can't see it being the brake pads. had the car up and had a look under it and could see no free play in anything under there.

although it seems like it is coming from the passenger side it also seems as if it is coming from the underbody of the car rather than the actual side. Its sort of like a hollow noise rather than a knock or clunk. Literally just hits it coming off a bump or when my right hand side goes over a pot hole or drain etc.
if it is drop links like you said are these difficult in anyway to fit and how much am i looking at. thanks

UPDATE**
i can feel the noise coming from the underside of the car. like i hear something hit the underside? does this just mean something is loose and i need to get back under the car and see what it is. The noise doesn't seem like anything serious its just annoying.

Also im not sure if theyre cup mirrors for whoever asked. They are tiny and i cant see a thing from them. Also he has taken the thing out to move them so there is no pins.

thanks chris

You get the clips okay mate?

To change the mirrors, you take off the doorcard, then the mirror cover from the inside. Then remove the mirror and baseplate & fit the new mirrors...

hello David. Yes thx alot i got my clips. only about 10p each. got the ones for wheel trim and then for the inside of the door. About a 5 minute job.

thanks

You know where the adjustor for the mirror is... Take off the surround for that once the doorcard is off. Then I think there's 3 screws [T20 Torx iirc] you undo then the mirror and baseplate will come off...

You sure the squeaking is coming from the front wheels? If your car is stationary i can't see why your wheels would be making a noise. Maybe something to do with the suspension, has the car been lowered at all?

What sort of sqeek is it? Does it do it when u are driving? Is it Constant? Does it sound like it is coming from the right front wheel. It could be your fan belt bit of wd40 will do the trick but my need replacing in the end

Wouldn't use WD40, will start to slip then.

about the knock. It feels like it is only doing it when i go over a pot hole or a speed bump and the faster im going the louder it knocks. been under the car again to see if anything is loose. no luck. its sort of a ba-boom knock if that makes sense. It does have a back box on it but the knock is coming from the front somehwere. can be felt under my feet and the passengers. exhaust rubbers look in good nick so cant see it being that either. i want to take it to a garage but they will more than like rip me off. this is the only problem i really have and the more i drive my car the more it paranoys me. only had it bleedin 3 days.

Hi, see if you can rock the engine, you may have worn or loose engine mounts, if you have it will clonk as you rock the engine, just an idea!

and knocking soes not seem to be anti roll bar either? really puzzles me as to what it is.

The clunking noise could be the suspension mounts or the lower wishbone. The best thing for trim clip removal is a tool with a screwdriver handle which goes down at the end is like a flat blade screwdriver but has a V shaped cut out for removing the clip. They`re not expensive bought mine from Halfrauds.

i dont know if anyone sugested this but my car has a 'squaking' noise when going over bumps,i found its just the rear wheel moving around slightly in the cage.
tighten the cage up abit more and try it.
just a though.
