i have found out that adding my mam as a named driver on my policy reduces the premium.does anyone know if this will in any way effect her own policy?i know it sounds daft but is this legal even though she might neva even drive my car?

cheers:y:

Yeh I'm pretty sure it will be fine and won't affect her policy.

It's only illegal if you drive the car all the time but your mum is named as the main driver, Ie Fronting.

EDIT: hmmm illegal, i dunno actually, but I know that insurance companies don't like it and probably won't pay out if you have an accident

Yes no problem whatsoever with insurance companies! And your mum may one day drive it so just in case...

Kind regards

I did it for my second year driving but in the third year it was more expensive to add them

Yep as has been confirmed there is nothing wrong with it so long as you are not fronting the policy. E.g Mum or Dad as policyholder and main user whilst you are just a named driver whilst driving it all the time to get cheaper premiums. Insurance companies really frown on it and will probably not pay out on any claim you make or settle it on a proportional basis. Also as has been mentioned, it is usually cheaper to add more named drivers onto the policy. Most insurance companies underwriting criteria and claims statistics will suggest that those with insured only policies (just one driver) are significantly more likley to make a claim.

Let your mum drive your car at least once a week then you're not really doing anything wrong ;)

Better to be safe than sorry
