right last night i was driving trough town and i was stopped for my exhaust being to loud. Now they said i also had no m.o.t and no insurance. I got home and checked my m.o.t and it is overdue by a month, ive had the car for a couple of months and was told it had a few monts left on the m.o.t so i didnt even think to check. Now i have no had the m.o.t done today and need to produce my documents at the police station. I know i am in the wrong as i should of checked the m.o.t bt being that i have sorted it out and all do you think when i produce the documents they mite let me off abit, and as for the insurance it turns out the person who took the details over the phone when i insured it made a typo and added a number.

Nope, to buy tax you must have MOT & insurance, but after that its valid till it runs out!

No don't think so because your car can still be taxed without isnurance, although you do have to produce insurance to get tax

Well if u get new MOT then it still wont matter cause if u got pulled last night then the new MOT covers u from today so thats out of the question

Just take ur insurance down with u, and try it with the new MOT cause all they do is rite it down in a big book :homme:

Ive got away with having no insurance once it isnt big but it was a one off.......i had the old cover note sayin it was still insured even though it wasnt and got away with it

Anyway im sure they will just caution you and let you off

No MOT is a fine not points!
So you should keep your license - unless they go for insurance being invalid due to expired MOT!

David
13th February 2008, 14:41
Thinking about it... that site that was on here ages ago, when you put your registration in to see if you had insurance... You put yours in, and it said it had no details of you...?

you might get away with no mot , i got stopped in my nova with no tax or mot (in my stupid younger days) but they only took me to court for no tax . as for insurance you should always check the documents when you recieve them to make sure they are correct

Give the guy a break... he's not the only one thats forgotten about mot. Yes, it was ignorance on his part but how was he to know he couldn't trust the seller of his car?

I've driven round with no mot for 3 weeks before without even knowing because it was my first car and i wasn't in to the habit of checking when it needed renewing. good job i get a reminder from my lovely garage i take it to now hey? its just lucky i wasn't pulled cos i had no idea

technically speaking, yes you are going to be shat on from a great hight.

BUT

you have insurance ;)

your MOT is out of date (thats not a point deductable matter;))

you havnt hit anyone, etc

what they will have done is give you 7 or 14days to get an mot sorted and produce all of your supporting documents.

you may find that they will be ok with the insurance.

i know peeps that have had no mot but had insurance.

the no mot therefore no insurance, really only comes into play if you have had a bump etc ;)

i had a car on my drive for 2 years that was insured but didnt have an mot, i asked them about the isurance, the guy on the phone from adrian flux just said that the fully comp insurance will still cover the car for it being on the drive, dont worry about it andthe mot.

you may be ok

were the cops snotty with you??

what did they say??

smiith
13th February 2008, 18:15
if you go to the station, and say you cant find you MOT certificate, they might just give you a warning for been unable to produce, did that to me when i couldnt find insurance.

Dez
13th February 2008, 18:16
im sorry but it is the buyers responsibility to check the MOT date, as soon as you purchased that car and sent the forms to the dvla you became responsible to make sure the car had a valid MOT - you cant blame the previous owner for that.

You made a mistake - now you will have to deal with the consequences but i doubt you will lose your licence.

More likely to be a fine tbh

Mikey

You're missing the point... he's already said he doesn't blame the owner cos its his own fault for not checking :p

Yep, looking at a ban and an extended test before you are able to get back on the road

don't you have to take an extended test?

As above.

sorry but to buy a car and not check what youv been told sounds like youv been scammed by the seller tbh

No he's not been scammed at all. It is up to the buyer to check the MOT and tax on the car. It's not difficult.

One other thing, just to put the icing on the cake with a huge cherry as well - expect to pay at least 50 - 100% more for your insurance when you're allowed back on the road.

I realise that it was probably not your intention to drive uninsured and have no MOT, but the offence is absolute, they were not in place when the vehicle was on the road, therefore the offence HAS been committed.

You may find that this is helpful....

this has happened to me before i had no mot and a battered nova
i went to produce my insurance and he said have you got an mot i said no i signed a witness statement admitting i was driving without a mot and he said i will be summoned to court this wasnt the first time the novas were so rusty i couldnt afford there mot lol this is when i was 17 also 1 week before i had a crash and the insurance payed out even though i had a expired mot that doesnt always happen but because you havent crashed you probably get very little if anything but that was when i was 17 and was pretty stupid at the time
good luck

vtr2007

have you informed the insurance company taht youve made a typing error and youve been stopped by the police ?
say that they have made the mistake with the reg then its not your fault

i know its stupid you get fined half the price of an mot for not having one it seems very unlikely most of the time you get summobed for driving without an mot because sometimes the insurance isnt void

LOOK HERE:::: my brother was in the same exact boat, wrong digit on insurance and no mot... its ur own fault for not checking ur documents when they come because thats what they tell u to do.... i do feel sorry for ya mate but it seems to be game over but u will have to get a court date first so u can still drive for a few months!

CampDavid
14th February 2008, 18:35
Don't come on here for advice, you'll only get pap.

You were insured. You will need to check your cover note, but IIRC you are covered 3rd party right up to the moment that you crash and the cause of the accident is related to a failing on the car.

No MOT/No Tax is a civil offence. This can carry a fine, but may not carry points as it's not a traffic offence.

Some of the shit people post on ehre is reprehensable.

Speek to the police at the station tomorrow, tell them what's happened. If they want to prosecute for no insurance, take legal advice and you should be fine.

Hi mate, looks like your gonna be in the shit for a bit... No insurance and no MOT i think is a 12month driving ban... depending on how long you have driving, you may have to retake theory and practical test but a more comprehensive version. The police can be arseholes, just shove your tongue up their arse and hope for the best init :)

no its not no insurance (but technically he did but wrong digit) = 6-8 points

no mot like said above is not even a road traffic offence but a civil offence and if he had no insurance his car would have been impounded
