use some 600 wet and dry (wet) to give a nice surface on the cover, then use primer, 1 coat will be fine, then 2 coats of gloss black.

Primer is needed so the gloss will take to the surface, using wet and dry gives a clean smooth surface.

Hope that helps.

all paint should have a basecoat (primer) there are different kinds of primers to, plastic primers, metal primers, filler primer and many more.

For just spaying exterior plastics or interior use plasitic primer as this has tolerence to expand in the sun as plastic is soft and when hot does expand.
Using plastic primer will stop your top coat (gloss) from cracking.

If there are imperfections/scratches to the plastic which cant be removed with wet and dry then use a coat of filler primer on top of the plastic primer, this levels the surface as it is slightly thicker than normal primers.

You should always use wet and dry to give a clean smooth surface and always use a basecoat for best finishes.
