Churchill car insurance has compared data on 500,000 car drivers in the UK and have revealed strong patterns between first names and the types of car they drive. Wayne, Darren and Tracey are especially drawn to the Ford Escort. The Vauxhall Astra is especially popular with Gary, Carl and Lee. The Nissan Micra confirms its “Granny”¯ image, with disproportionate ownership by Joyce, Doreen, Beryl and Audrey. The typical Ford Mondeo man is called Adrian, Howard or Julian. Rodney is no longer found in Peckham in his Reliant Robin, for he too now drives a Ford Mondeo. Vauxhall Astra: Gary, Carl and Lee drive this car
The Renault Clio appears one of the most stereotypical cars, with strong followings in name groups in both genders ”“ they prove popular with Sarah, Gemma or Amy, and Matthew, Adam and Alexander. Darren McCauley Head of Churchill Car Insurance said: “It seems that there is a link between the names that parents give their children and the type of car they go on to choose as an adult. Whether we get our first car at 17 or 77 years, it does seem that it’s our name that drives our choice of car. However, we don’t underwrite policies on a name basis!”¯ Renault Clio - As driven by Sarah, Gemma or Amy, Matthew, Adam and Alexander.
