my dad has just started a new job and needs to choose his new car. basically his new boss is very 'green' so its got to be a diesel, which is not a problem as there are some good diesels about.

he needs to make a short list of 5 possibilities

he has had a look round and come up with:

1. lexus is 220d
2. audi a4 se 2.0 tdi
3. bmw 318d es saloon
4. ford mondeo tdci
5. vauxhall astra sxi 1.7 cdti

some i like (1- audi, 2 - bmw) the others i dont.

can you suggest any other suitable cars that i can suggest to him as he has asked if i can come up with any better suggestions?

personally i would go for the a4 but the avant version simply because i think its nicer.

any pro's and con's about the ones already on the list?

(i'm trying to persuade him to put the audi at no.1 rather than the lexus)

as you can probly tell from his short list it needs to be a good size family car and max price around £25k

any ideas?

Apparently the new Mondeo is very, very good

A4 is old and driven by company rep cunts.

BMW is allways good. What about a 123D?

i know the mondeo has been given very good reviews but it just doesnt have the build quality of german cars. it doesnt look anywhere near a nice either imo. i was driving next to one today it look very boring and unforgettable.

i will have a look into the 123d to see what the stats are like.

i really like the a4 personally, especially the avant.

My dad has a BMW 320D M Sport Touring
I'd recommend that.
Nippy car, 0-60 in 8 seconds and I've had 120 out of it and it was still pulling hard.
And also regular over 40mpg.

the 318d does over 55mpg

unfortunately the m sport is too expensive.

camp - the 1 series is too small. he wants something similar size to the 3 series

Its not as nippy though, the 320d has the same engine as the 318d just mapped different, and trust me its worth the extra little bit.
M sport is just a pack that puts a sports box, m badges everywhere, nice alloys and lowers the car a bit. You dont really need it though. The test drive car we got was a normal 320d and it was good enough.

pick one of the new c5's released very soon.

if it drives as well as it looks then citroen could be on to something.

the c5 doesnt look too bad but they are expensive as lease cars as citroens depreciate quickly.

i will have a look into the mazda 6 and passat

i dont think the tt will really suit him tbh.

C5 is very nice, I'll admit Sayer - What diesel engines are lined up for that?

He his like you really with his diesels ;) what mileage his is C5 on now?

Anyways, serious note mate....

I'd recommend one of the following...BUT bare in mind when getting a company car, the more the list price the more the monthly tax on it.

1......Renault Laguna DCi
2......Ford Focus/Mondeo TDCi

All depends how much tax he wants to pay though suppose.

like father like son, both boring derv lovers. its on about 85k i think - unlike mine the only thing to go wrong with it was the rear windscreen wiper motor... barsteward.

anyway... Curran, didnt even think about the Leasing thingy (dont know what it is)... didnt realise depreciation would bugger the monthly payments.

Curran

basically you end up paying more money to cover the depreciation so that the leasing company doesnt lose money.

i'm going to try and persude him to go for an a4 in white with a black roof ;)

doubt that will tickle his fancy tho tbh.
