My pc isn't picking up any cd's that i put in to the drive to copy, Ive tried restoring the pc and system recovery but still nothing, When i first put the cd a little cd symbol comes up next to the curser, Does anyone know what the problem is?

The symbol you are referring to looks like a cd? Do you mean it doesn't recognise any cds or it only disregards blank CD's ready for burning data to?

Have you tried to update the cd-rom drivers maybe?

I presume you're running XP (in which case drivers are old skool) Have you made any recnt system changes prior to this problem occurring???

What do you mean?
Your hardware still needs drivers to be able run properly, regardless of what operating system your using.

Yeah, i know that, but unlike, older OS's suce as win98SE, XP automatically selects and installs the best drivers for optical drives (unless its SATA)

Yeah it will, sure you';ve not messed with master and slave IDE cables etc? Go to start then right click my computer, go to manage then go to disk managment, in the box on the right at the bottom it should say something like Disk 0 and then underneath CD-ROM 0 or something, if not let me know, also try pressing the windows key and Pause, hardware, then device manger, and take a screenie for me ;)

when you put the cd in does the drive start to spin up?
had this problem loads with xp.
Most the time it is spyware related. run all that spy ware anti virus shit see if you pick any thing up.
Then run a cd cleaning disc, get some compressed air from maplin or something blast that through the drive.
You need to be specific to if the drive is showing in my computer, if so what comes up when you double click it? does it come up that there is no media in the cd-rom drive?
