thought this would actually be an interesting thread,
was watching this programmed called "dont get done, get dom" with that little bald guy who does the house programmes / few car ones,
HE BASICALLY HELPS PEOPLE OUT IE BANKS TRYING TO RIP PEOPLE OFF FOBBING THEM OFF FOR LIKE 5MONTHS, DOM WALKS IN TAKES CONTROL WITHIN DAYS HE USUALLY GETS THE RESOLUTION AND MORE THAN THE CUSTOMER WAS EXPECTING.
sorry about caps,
also he walks upto someone in the street "hi" "what you shopping for"? ill do that for you and get it cheaper,,, 2 quick examples
guy wanted a downhill bike helmet brand new retailing at £200
dom walks into a BIG franchise bike shop (not a lil owned one) blabla ill have that one but i dont like the price. "assistant looks and laughs" after about 2 seconds goes ok ill give you it for £180 good offer considering its shelfed for 200 brand new design
dom goes into another shop privately owned only small,
i want that helmet...it isnt in stock.... dom says can you get it within a few days.... shop owners yea i will and thats £200, dom...nah blablabla i want it cheaper, gets it for £150 after about 2mins of small talk,, amazing how much you can get off...
me lass bought a bed at the weekend i tried haggling, this is in a big "Dreams" store, i got free delivery straight away after requesting it, £30 saved in no time your laughing.
anyone else ever haggle other than for a CAR. (tvs-beds-furniture hi fi??)

also just quickly, he got a women to get about £900 off the price of a £6k conservatory which was quite funny to watch,
they do it with hidden cams so the shops dont offer discount just because they are on cam, and use ear pieces so DOM can relay his questions to the shopper to ask the shops owners

doing some tonight on a vtr I want to buy. my dad is the master at haggling he has done for the last 25 years as he constantly buys and sells cars etc.
He told me to come with him but not look enthusiastic and be fussy about the colour as its white (however i do want this colour).
She wanted 2600 for it wehn i phoned her but my dad wont pay over 2100 for it will let you know what happens.
He managed to get me a renault clio a couple years back for 1400 quid as somebody wanted a quicksale as the clutch was dodgy, my old man had a spare at his scrapyard fitted it and i run it for a year with no problems until I wrote it off (not my fault) and insurance caughed up 2600 for the car as that was book price :)

i dont haggle for the sake of haggling as sometimes they can read you and you end up getting nothing. but occasionally i do and can.

if you haggle for phone contracts you get deals that are literally three times as good as the off the shelf stuff, ill never buy a preset package again. £200 free credit rocks, i havent had to pay my contract in yonks

My mum is amazing at this. Her contract is 5quid a month with a free phone because she rang orange and told them o2 offered her such and such then did this to o2 and kept doing it until orange offered her this ahha amazing.
She also worked 500quid off their new car + a free towbar and sum other free shit. Shes good at it.
I try to haggle but sometimes it just never happens

honestly it works soooo easy but people wouldnt even dare do it.
bike helmet, £200--doms price 150£
karate stuff £about £150 doms price £80 odd
other day was guy wanting FULL ice hockey stuff, £650 doms price WHOPPING £400
ABOUT £900 of the conservatory price
bed £600 doms price £400 and free delivery
cars dont count as people expect to get money off as its not a fixed price its a price the individual wants, where as people wouldnt think you could just go and ask for 30% of a price of a shelved stock item in a store, but it works and EASILY to,

The only problem is if you start haggling over stuff you look/feel like a bit of a skank

any type of insurance (car insurance mainly) is another good one to haggle on.
you will always get a much better deal if you get a few companies fighting against each other for your custom.
also the sales assistant wants you to buy their insurance as they get commission so they will do all they can to give you a better price than the other companies.
i rang up for my renewal quote yesterday and i couldnt believe how desperate the sales assistant got when i told him i was going to ring around for quotes before accepting their offer. it was quite amusing.

thats true, i got quoted £600 for insurance B so said ok yea thatl do ill ring in 8days when my renewal comes through
so renewal day comes, i get a quote online for a laugh and its 580 with AA cover, so when insurance B call me i say sorry but iv just done a quick quote and AA quoted me 580, she says ok blabla we can do you 550 i said ok fine ill call you later (knowin im gonna call AA) aa CALL, sorry i just got quoted 550 by my first insurance quote, oh ok well we can do 540 with AA cover, ok ill call later, insurance company b calls, i say sorry but i just got quoted 530 (making sure i make it sound cheaper) with breakdown, she goes off comes back i can do it for £500 with breakdown cover which is actually through the AA service, and give you a courtesy car blablabla i call AA they cant beat it.
so i got £100 off without even moving my ass, and i was happy with the first 600 but the other company obviously wanted ANY CASH even 100£ + £60odd quids worth of breakdown cover.

check this.
Almost all stores that accept credit and debit cards get charges a fee for using it. My dad strolled into a small Jewellers looking for a ring for el mother... was about to pay with the credit card and offered to pay in cash for discount explaining that he knew the charges.
bosh.. £50 off just like that.

Reckon we can haggle petrol?
"Psssh I'm not paying that, BP down the road are offerring 100.9 and you want 103.9. Having a laugh!"
"Ok how about 100.7"
"I'll drive down to BP and ask...*at BP* Shell have the price of petrol at 100.7, I'm not paying your crazy price."
"Ok we'll give you petrol for 99.9"
"I'll drive up the steep hill with my limited petrol that I've wasted going back and forth between petrol stations and check their price out"
I kinda blew that theory out of the water, didnt I.
Has anyone tried to haggle on anything like music or computer games? I tried to for COD4 but they didn't have it.
"Morissons will give me the game for 29.99, and you want £35? Can you match their price?"
"Afraid not"
"Ok well I like morissons better anyway." :p

I don't usually but I do with Sky TV - all you have to do is threaten to leave or say you're joining Virgin and they give you 3 months free and drop your charges to £20 a month!!
Sweet!!

Like has been said it depends where you are and what the situation is ... nothing more p*sses me off than when im at work and you get people asking for discount, but I work at tesco and you pay the shelf price, it would be cool if we were allowed some lenience particularly in my area of electrical sales cos i reckon i could increase sales if we were ...
And my dads ace at haggling ... always worth a try!

I haggle every day. It's my job!
When I'm not working if I want to buy something and think whatever it is is a fair price or I receive good service I'll pay the price. If I get a numpty in a large chain serving me or receive shite service or think a price could be beaten by quite a bit I will haggle.
Best bit of haggling I did recently I got 24 grand off!
