View Full Version : Your scary moments in the Sax..?

Post any near misses, spins, or complete write-offs youve had in your Saxo!

Ill start off with one:

Going along the Dorset Way dual carriageway one morning, late for work, for some reason carriageway empty, so I was flying in the VTR doing 70..ish.. came round the bend and there at the roundabout there was stationary traffic.. I was expecting to do about 50 through the RA, but now I had to brake very hard. Ofcourse this is before I fixed my rear brake bias, so basically the rear wheels locked up, the car swerved to the left, I had to correct it, then countersteer back into it.. this happened bout 3 times before doing a complete 360 in between the two lanes! Luckily I had enough space to safe it and didnt hit anything, just a lot of burnt Toyo smoke!! To the front, was an old biddy in her micra who practically fainted when I casually cruised alongside her, after just spinning my car lol.
That was emotional though, all I was thinkin is 'I aint scuffing these black alloys on those fukin curves!'. Ofcourse I had the ex-misses in the car, and she was more along the lines of 'OMG we're gonna die'

 so who else is gonna give some interesting stories ? :P

Old saxo, flying over a bridge into a pillar.

New one... erm... When a bus didn't spot me and pulled straight out, bumped the car up the pavement and onto the grass just in time. The numpty drove off with the passengers swearing at him. I was alright as I steered round the bus just in time and got in front :y:

Tarpaulling sheet over windscreen at 70mph. :y:

Hit a cement bag which fell off the lorry in front of me at 80mph, ripped off front of car.

Lost control at roundabout and lumped a kerb.

Blew the diff changing from 4th to 5th at 60 and it just locked up and fucked it royally :wall:

All in my little saxo!

I was coming home from uni through some nat. speed limit lanes, I was behind a horse box and pulled out overtaking, i was past the trailer and just about to overtake the jeep pulling it when a car came booming the other way (but obviously i was on the wrong side of the road) and wasnt going to have enough time to overtake the jeep and pull back in in time with the speed that both of us were doing, so i decided to hit the brakes and steered in once i was again behind the horse box, but.... id hit the brakes hard cos id panicked, and being a phase 1, my VTR hasnt got ABS, so the wheels had already locked up as I was steering in, my car went virtually sideways with the tail kicking out to the right, and i saw a big hedge with a field, but by this point i was obviously attempting to counter, but over countered, and my car fishtailed completely the other way, im sure physics could dictate how far a car can go "sideways" at such a speed, but it was a fair decent old angle, at least 60 degrees id say, but it soon pulled straight, [with a lot of smoke and dust left behind!] That was pretty damn scary. That was the scariest moment... ive had a few other moments on roundabouts where ive had to swallow after though! Anyone alse got Avon ZZ1's on the back of their VT and think theyre.... temperamental?

ive got 2 lol

had two new tyres fitted to my saxo a few days after i got it, hit the motorway straight after, got to err bout 90 SHHHH and heard a a noise like the valve had popd, then a loud bang under the car, then another, asif the wheel nuts had come off and went under the car, promtly hit the brakes and stopped and checked, 1 month later done it agen, still dont no what it was now!

and

was traveling down the motorway again and was in a fowl mood and in a big hurry so as you can imagine was doing a fair speed, terrible i no, and sum dosy cow, ahem, pulled out clean infront of me in her silly little smart car doing about 60mph, had to brake so hard the brakes locked and i skided into the other lane nearly rearedin a 18wheeleri pulled bk in behind her and blasted my horn and flashed my lights (btw she didnt indicate) then she pulled back in and i shot past only to see she give ME the V's!!! can you believe that!

i pulled off the motorwayu then thought NO stuff it! and in my fit of raidge pulled back on very very quick, to see her in the fast lane, shot infront of her and hit the brakes and slowed to 40mph had a good look back and seen her nie on scream and tire smoke and a big swerve! made me smile as i set off again!!

oh just thought of another

was going down the back roads, and there was a big invisable bump, i have had the front of my car lowerd but the back needs done, as u can imagine the back end actually lifted off the floor and i nearly lost control, but i didnt thank the lord of hell so im still saxing about :) :)

i think if that woman did that to me i'd of flashed my lights and indicated her to pull of over and give her a good talking to how some cars on the motorway DO NOT have ABS and the fast lane is for overtakin and if u can see someone coming down at a more considerible speed then you, stay on your side of the carrage way for all she knew you could of been on the way to the hospital in a rush. Idiots like her, who dont know the basic's of driving on a motorway really frustrate me

going down a back lane (60mph zone) oming up to the crest of a hill,
car coming the other way turns to his left into a turn off (slow turning).

the impatient bastard behind him overtakes him and misses me by about 6 inches.

i hit the brakes like never before and did o full 540 into a car park opposite the turn off

drove like a maniac for 10 miles following this bloke to his house and dragged him out of his car and onto his bonnet. all before giving him a peice of my mind.

kicked his mirror off before leaving,

oh right, well unless the tyres are legally bald, then I doubt that would cause major oversteer.. unless the pressures are really high at the back and low on the front lol? more likely to be a suspension setup though.

and yes, i agree, road rage is bad lol because it usually involves tailgaiting which is dangerous!
(ok im sorry sometimes I do it, but only where ive got an escape route.. ;) )

went round a roundabout too fast...back end came out and steered into the drift and DRIFTED.......! and managed not to hit the kerb, and a few near misses etc, but all are from driving like a dickhead.... and one near miss i had, the most recent was i was doing 100mph on a dualc and a family van ford galaxy moved over for me then decided to block me for some reason... i didnt slow down and i kept flooring it and went past about 5cm gap when he realised i was alongside him not behind him! complete prat!

2 days after i got mine, with the 13' steelies, i was going a bit fast round a roundabout (50ish) and the back end kicked out and ended up in a lampost, luckily it was only a front wing that got dented. Nearly had the same thing on another roundabout, not going as fast, had alloys on but there was a load of surface water on it, managed to correct it before it got bad, i've learnt kumho ecstas don't handle in wet.

A HGV nearly pushed me into the centre barrier of the motorway LAST NIGHT, im guessing the driver was nodding off behind the wheel. I was in the middle lane about to overtake (completly empty motorway so couldn't be bothered tanking it thought i'd save my fuel and tootle around 60) came up along side the truck and he just started to drift into my lane, i had to move into outside lane and brake. Luckily im guessing he woke up and swerved back into the inside lane. The loud blast of the horn and finger he got out the window were expected I think.

10 metres from the junction a car pulled out in front of me. i was like WTF! i had no time to brake, i instictivley swerved at 75 backend kickedout went sideways past the car felt like propa slow motion is was mental. looked inside the car to see a very old lady that could bearly see over the steering wheel, i dropped to 3rd to power out the slide, it straightened out like a beut n carried on. it wierd i remeber everything from the litlest detail, but i dont really no how i done it it just happend, my hands and feet moved by themself lol i was like i almost died

Had one and it ended in it been wrote off. Was coming down a bank id never been down before and the corner tightened about 3/4 of the way down so ended up fishtailing on the wrong side of the road due to it oversteering with a piccaso coming towards me.
Wasnt going to get it undercontrol in time so i swung it up the curb onto a grass bank and put it into a road barrier.

Miss the saxo everytime i take a corner in the barge (vectra) but 5 more months and im getting my dream car a golf gti mk2 so its all good :clapping:

still started and drove like that who sed saxos are unreliable eh!

Theres another one actualy about a month after i got it coming down a dual carriage way to a roundabout it was clear so went to turn and my steering completly locked.
Remember i just said to myself f**k slammed the breaks on skidded to a stop about an inch infront of the roundabout turned engine off started it up again and it was fine was more embarresing than anything else and got no idea why it did it to this day.

Wasnt in a saxo but was on my way to work, coming out of a 30 zone into a 60, its on a hill and i notice a broken down bus at the top of the hill with a couple of cars behind waiting to get past, there is also a lorry parked on the verge of the road with all wheels fully off the road. So i carry on up ready to wait behind this bus, i get litterally just behind this lorry and he pulls out with no signal or warning i swerve to avoid n then have to make the choice between head on collision or swerve back in and try avoid the cars waiting behind the bus, all brakes go on front wheels lock up n i slide perfectly straight between the oncoming cars and the cars waiting behind the bus. RESULT !! Saying that i wasnt too impressed with the lorry driver that carried on oblivious (sp?)

Had a few but these the best ones.

Was coming off a round about. Gave it some beans as you do and was greeted by a bin wagon that had come through the barrier and was upside infront off me. Had to lock up and help the driver.

Then this one.

On the way home going onto the m60 towards Stockport from Cheadle.

Sounded like i hit loads of gravel then went. Sound came back again so thought arche had come out into wheel. Hit the brakes which didnt work.

I shift down to stop on hard shoulder just of slip road. Jumped out spotted smoke from front. Grabbed fire extinguisher whilst gf popped the hood. Opened it up and flames everywhere in engine bay.

Rang the fire brigade and moved away from car.

The whole car is burnt to a crisp upto the dash.

All the money and time ive spent on it and its gone in a few mins. Was told if my manifold wasnt heatwrapped then me and my gf would be badly burnt or dead.

When I was younger in my Fiesta, I had abit of a passion for taking roundabouts at high speed, untill I spun it and fucked both nearside alloys, that had been refurbed Anthracite one week before!

Then I was late for a meeting, so I decided to take some 'back roads' or single track roads, was driving abit fast, and around a blind bend, with me giving it beans, a car just popped into view, to avoid a crash, I put it into a hedge, best thing was, it didnt damage my car in anyway!

In the VTS i've only managed to get the back end out round a roundabout once, and i was surpised at how well they handle!

My poor saxo is always got to be on guard from these unobservant drivers!!

I nearly got taken out there on my way to work. I was in the left lane of the slip road, jus about to turn to the right hand lane(INDICATING RIGHT, obvious what i'm about to do) through the bend to go up to hurn (where i work) and a brand new Maserati flys up behind me in the right hand lane doing about 60-70mph, he had only jus started braking!

If i'd carried on my manuever(which as you'll know is a pretty normal one) he'd have without a doubt slammed into me, and this was about 1/2 way down the sliproad.

So in conclusion.. I've been on both ends of this(i've also had someone pull out infront of me there without indication, i nearly hit them as well..) and tbh, it's generally a nasty sliproad!

I've had a taxi pull out of a sideroad when i was doing 40mph(in a 40mph zone), andi had to swerve(half skidding..) into the sideroad he came out of, as if it were a lay-by, and back out to avoid him, so very close to hitting him it was untrue! If i'd have locked up i'd be in his door.
