I often fit sound systems to mates cars, and a while back i fitted a bluetooth headunit to a Corsa C. It was a non brand name one, bout 150 quids worth, a gift from my mate to his gf at the time.

Ive fitted more HUs than i can remember tbh and never had a problem. But shes just text me telling me the cars fooked and its had to be towed away, apparently because of the headunit wiring according to the blokes who took it.

Now i dont get this, Ive apologised and she says its ok but I feel guilty obviously, but I cant understand how a headunit can cause issues with the car, just two very basic power wires and a few speaker cables.

I dont have any further info on the problems, just that it wont run. But is there anychance a headunit would effect the cars core electrics? Its been fine for about 4-6 months.

Opinions grateful, im stumped. It must be more than a dead battery or they wouldnt tow it

id be very suprised if it was anything like your fault. i dont know how head unit wiring could do that.

Wouldnt worry matey, you know what people who operate tow trucks are like. If they see anything that is non standard they blame the problems the car is having on that. Probably because it is a very simple fix but they fancy towing it to make the cash.

What are the chances they had the HU out in that time to diagnose the prob.

Sounds to me you've done her a favour and since something's gone wrong she's stabbing you in the back.

I'd get revenge ;)

its bollocks. the green flag man tried to blame the power lead on my sisters car for it not starting. it wasnt anything to do with the battery terminal coming off?!? the guy was an idiot. as soon as the terminal was back on it was fine.

tbh mate tell her to fu*k off, you fitted it for free as a favour? i bet he wasnt moaning when it was being done for him.

Cant stand people who get something for nothing then complain about him, And also recovery guys no nothing. When i broke down in my corsa years ago the bloke was checking around the suspension? i asked him why and he said because something may of come lose.

Dont worry about it too much and if he does say anything then you know that you dont do any more favours for him

cheers mate. My mates no longer with her so i dont see her anymore, she said she will know to go elsewhere in the future , her choice dont really care I dont make anything from it.

Another thing is that I dont see why it would be fine for so long.

ive had problems with displays and clocks before but thats an easy fix etc..

either someone tampered with it and started pulling wires out.. or she fooked it and thought she would blame you thats why shes so forgiving..

TU-Tuning

well shes apparently left a comment on my mates bebo saying it was the headunit not the wiring to guilt trip him, and shes still saying it coulld be the wiring to me.

So i dont feel guilty atall now im leavin her to it lol

plugged my headunit into my mum's car, two of the open wires (they split in my crash) touched and shorted, blew the hu fuse and 5 of the car fuses!

TU-Tuning
22nd February 2008, 12:38
yeah thats what came into my head, a fuse issue. But i thought even a dealership mechanic or tow operator knew what a fuse was so i was hoping they checked
