lcd is better in daylight conditions such as everyday use plasma are better when viewed in the dark or a darkened room but if there was a vote to say who thought which was better most people would say a plasma

You talking about the LED Screens?? cos they look amazing haha

and yeah, i have a 52" Plasma and it beats the hell out of LCD easy, specialy at that size.

Anything above about 40" you must to Plasma or you will regret it!

Anything over 32" and you're better off with a plasma IMO. Plasma TVs are alot better for standard definition TV aswell.

O-LED?

Its one of the future ones but at the moment its ridiculously expensive and the max i have heard of was 20 odd inches and even then it might be cheaper to run a space program at this stage

plasma is better. form 37" upwards i would go for plasma, better wquality plus higher contrast ratios mean it has broader range of colours...and black is black and white is white. wheras on lcd can be washe dout and grey. also has wider viewing angle, lcds are best viewd from directly in front. also hard screen so more durable, press to much on lcd and you will get dead pixels thus picture quality will decrease. Plasmas will last as long as an lcd nowadays aswell :) hope this helps :)

Yeah as you said the prices are really high, but i suppose its just a matter of time, like when plasmas first came out etc, and they still have months/years to get them to th sizes that people want these days!

yeah most of yor Plasmas are glass fronted too which gives a better picture, one of the drawbacks wth plasma is you can get screen burn which is if you watch the same channel a lot, you could get the channel logo 'imprinted' or burned into the display... but i know some of the new samsungs and LG's haev a screen wipe facility to erase this. O hand plasmas are heavier too so if weight is an isseu go LCD, and im sure LCD's use less energy than Plasma?

screen burn is actually pretty rare you know, and most TV's now slight move the picture so they dont burn and when you turn them of sometimes flash white to get rid of anything or stuff like that!

Suprised nobody has mentioned the bullshit about plasmas and gas, haha that makes me laugh

Matt_e

screen burn was a problem with the old plasma's. but new dont have that problem anymore

there are many different views on this but my persoinal opion would be LCD up 42 then above go plasma (if you got a big car to take him home). i mean at work we get complaints about people playing on the new generation consoles on thier tv and on plasmas they get so much screen burn because the image is so strong that why i would peronally go to LCD because im more of a gamer

Danhunt

Plasma sounds cooler

all abit dodgy like betty said all this talk off screen burn is overatted

yet saxoaee obviousl works in tv shops and is openly talking about people coming in to talk about screenburn, so it obviously isnt rubbish

its abit crap you wouldnt want to pay the price you do for plasmas £600+ (i dunno) then expect to have to deal with the bloody screen burning

What does everyone have, and what does everyone think is better?

I currently have a 42" Phillips PLASMA HD 1080, which I run with a Virgin HD V+ box, have no compaints as yet, perfect.

Arnt you a bit annoyed with the lack of hd channels on virgin hd? I bought a toshiba 42" lcd tv and was advised to what kind of tv i watched to what to have ie if i watched a lot of sport on tv then the plasma was better for me but if i was just genernal stuff then lcd was ok. Plus we wanted 1080 not much in the way of plasma when we went shopping.

Hanuman
25th February 2008, 12:56
like girl racer said its poo as theres hardly any hd channels and what there is you pay to much for... i only bought mine for gaming really, and football on my lcd is crap although i think it might be down to the signal maybe on the euro DBOX

girlracer1597
25th February 2008, 13:07
its not to bad because our hd box is connected via a hdmi so our box upscales it to 720 (1080 upscaling on the virgin box is poo) so our general pixture is really good. My other half is always on his xbox so the gaming thing is important. I dont regret buying it but just which there was a bit more hd stuff out there. Please nobody tell me sky is better for hd as im not interested as i cant get sky!!!

Digital TV broadcasting will be transmitted in HD not too far down the line anyway .... HD will become de facto ... its just when :-p ...
We've got a plasma for sale at work, this new 50" LG ... but its most impressive feature is its 100Hz refresh rate and 5000:1 contrast ratio (yes thats dynamic but still). Picture would be awesome runnin from a true HD source.
What gets me the most with people that buy from us at work though is
"Yeah mate, ill take this £800 LG, it is 1080 aint it?"
"yeah mate, you running from a true 1080 source though?"
"ermmm ... no i dont think so... whats one of those"
"well have you got a HD DVD Player, Sky HD or Ps3 or anything?"
"No"
[so why are you bothered about a 1080 TV then?!?!]

Or When they come in and buy a shit hot 1080p TV spend towards a grand ... so i ask them about cabling .... "ahh just just chuck us a few of them value scart leads"
"ermmm id reccomend you spending some decent money on cabling mate, youve just spent nearly a grand on the TV ... itll be pointless without quality cabling"
"nah it'll be orate"

OK thennnnn ?!?!?!

Picture quality for films and/or screens over 37 = Plasma

LCD technology is improving massively but still not as natural as a plasma.

Most people prefer the look of LCD when they're demonstrated to them in TV shops because they tend to use overpowering, brightly coloured tracks and it's that initial wow factor that draws most to lcd, but if you were to sit down and watch a film on a say 40 inch lcd then a 40 inch plasma you should see the difference in quality of picture and you can then make up your own mind.

Main problem that we have at the moment is that LCD is getter bigger, both in size and poularity which means production costs are much less than plasma.

This then leads to a brand war where each manufacturer aims to get each new model at a price just below their competitors. The only way to do this efficiently is to use lower spec/cheaper components

Not good in the long run. If you are a fan of good picture quality, not just 59246439058435274569240000000:1 contrast ratio, because that's one better than your mates then buy a plasma.

Just whatever you do, don't buy a Sony!

I've heard that Plasma has been out dated by LCD because they require a "refill" after so many years, which is why they are cheaper :)

But a agree with that fact the picture is better on a large screen. I currently have a 37" Sharp LCD, which is great, but not as clear as my mates 42" plasma, just looks so good! But its not HD ready, where as mine is :)

you cant seriously think because they are wanting to get the best price customers will suffer by crapper quality and pictures??? seriously!

they are making enuff profit NO tv company would make its quality suffer in order to sell a cheaper product it just doesnt make ANY kind of business sense so dont worry about that..

All manufacturers cut costs to remain in the competitive market. 8 years of my working life is in the industry. I know these things!
