Decent tyres!

Alright, just looking at getting some nice grippy tyres for the summer months. Obviously not too soft, ones that I can do a decent mileage on. Any suggestions would be much apprieciated. Cheers.

eagle f1's or michelin exaltos or pirelli p-zero's. Don't get toyos, wear out too quick as they are made from a soft compound.

they're not that soft, compared to semi-slicks for example.

for 14" rims i think you'd be struggling to find a better road tyre than toyo proxes.

well you have to look to see what tyres are available in what size. for example, p-zero neros aren't available for a 14" rim; only P6000s which are awful tyres. toyo proxes are a good all round tyre and in 195/55/14 you won't be paying more than £50 a corner from mytyres.co.uk

yokohama and avon are good summer too tyres but i wouldn't count on them in the wet.

can't edit yet - you'll see between 6-12k from proxes depending on how you drive.

I think you mean 185/55/14 and bearing in mind that the michelins are about £10 dearer at 195/45/15 than the toyos and you will get more miles out of them. It obvious that the tyre wear will depend on how you drive, i know someone that went through a set of avons in 3 months because he drove like a twat, i've got kuhmo ecstas on mine at the minute and had done about 7,000 miles on them and they still have about 5-6mm left on them. Personally i wouldn't have proxes just because i think there are better tyres out there.

I should point out that I'm rolling on standard vtr alloys, do f1's come in 185/55/14's?

I have tried them out, i work in a garage, so i have tried a majority of tyres out, whether it be on my car or taking other cars for MOT's, the toyos are more grippy, the grip is amazing, but i think they wear out to quickly. I know what you mean with people just jumping on the bandwagon, but i am speaking from experience.
The kuhmos are not too bad, they aren't the best in the wet, espec with a bit a surface water, nearly lost it on a roundabout, but in the dry had no complaints. I think i will probably get a set of paradas next, although not heard the too many great things about them, espec in wet.

if u want the best grip from a tyre then the compound will be softer an not last as long its as simple as that if u want the millage toyo prox if u want the grip an not to fussed about the millage toyo r888 are amazing

i wouldnt agree with this, my car came with toyo proxes on and i had to get 2 replaced so now have 2 on the front and 2 michelen pilot exalots on the back, and the toyos are not very grippy at all, it just slides all over yet the back end grips!

if u want the best grip go for semi slick legal tyres toyo r888 or yoko ao48r if u want them to last for ever fit nakangs taxi tyres will last for ever but no grip ha ha

I don't take peoples cars for rags as you think by the sounds of things. The MOT place we use is about 20 mins away from where i work so the cars have to be driven over there.
