Popping the bonnet...

Some how the mrs has managed to break the handle that pops the bonnet on her corsa. the lever is to the right under the steering wheel... is there anyway to get the bonnet open? i've tried pulling on the cable thats attached to the handle, but it pulls a little and does nothing.

Try pulling the cable with plyers or mole grips!

i tried that but the cable kind of went clunk, but nothing happened! the cable isnt broke coz its not loose, but i can pull it and the amount of pull i get i dont think i could get much more without snapping the cable. it pulls back quite a but.. probably further than the handle would pull it back.
