Hi I recently had a bang in my vtr, dont worry not my fault. So I claimed on the other guys insurance (churchill), and one of there engineers come round and valued the car.
He said it was a write off.
I then got a cheque through the post for £1900 but it didn't say anything about what will happen to the car.
Idealy I want to keep the car and fix it myself.
What do you think I should do, because if I cash the cheque then they might come and take the car.
Bit stuck please advise.

If you want to keep the car you have to buy it back off your insurance. Because technically they brought it off you for £1900.
Is it feasible to fix? (basically cost effective)
Did you agree to the £1900 or did they just send it?

Didn't aggree they just sent it.
Yes all it needs is a bonnet, bumper and side wing, secon hand parts and will be very cheap so really dont want to loose the car.
Shall I contact them saying I want to keep the car.
Thanks for your help btw

Churchill who wrote off the car would now own it!
One tip for future reference never take the first offer they give you!
Find cars of a similar spec (and higher price) to show the true value!

If you didnt agree to anything and they haven't said its a write off, it's on the other guys insurance tell them you want it fixed. They should've at least told you it it was a write off or fixable etc. if it was fixable they shouldve sorted out getting it done and then they get the money off the other guys insurance.
Get them on the phone and give them a bollocking, find out what their playing at.
Hows your neck?

The guy did say it was a write off.
I have'nt cashed in the cheque yet so i could still ask for more money. But I would be happy if they just left the car with me instead, what do you think they will do?
Thanks

as i said technically now they own the car. It all depends if your car was worth more or less than what they gave you.
If your happy with what you've got try and get it back to standard before they take it i.e. wheels exhaust etc. stereo what ever was on it that isnt standard.
If your not happy with your check, tell them! Send them a letter and the check back with similar saxo's for sale and how much they are. (try and find some more expensive ones aswel even though you know their not worth that much :y:)
COMPLAIN!!!

So how do I go around buying the car back off them?

Tell them your not happy with the cheque etc. try and get more off them (should always do that with the first offer they tell you) then just enquire about how much they'd sell it you back for (It's never the same price price they bought it off you for) Usually lots cheaper because its crashed. But also note that it will be a Cat D write off, and some people tend to steer clear from buying these cars.

OK thanks for the help, if its a cat D is it legal to repair it and MOT it etc..
It you repair it does it have to have a test before it can go back on the road.
Thanks again big help.
